STARTING STAFF RANKS #1--Ian Kennedy continued Kansas City s terrific early-season stretch of strong starts by a member of the rotation, tossing 8.0 scoreless in Sunday s win...his performance, combined with the remainder of the rotation that features Danny Duffy, Jason Vargas, Nate Karms and Jason Hammel has combined to post a Major League best 2.31 ERA through the first dozen games, allowing a big league low 19 earned runs in 74.0 innings and an American League low four home runs. WHIT BACK IN THE BIGS--The Royals have recalled utility man Whit Merrifield from Omaha (AAA) to take the spot vacated when pitcher Jake Junis was optioned to after Sunday s game...the 28-year old played in 81 games for Kansas City last year, including 73 starts spanning five differrent positions (second base, leftfield, rightfield, third base and first base)...in nine games this year, he has batted.412 (14-for-34) for Omaha with four doubles, three homers and nine RBI.
