EASTER ACTION--The Royals bring an all-time Easter Sunday record into today s series finale with the Angels...it s the first Easter contest for KC since losing an 8-3 decision to Minnesota on April 20, Kansas City s last Easter victory was against these L.A. Angels when the Royals posted a 7-3 win in Anaheim on April 8, 2012, a contest in which Eric Hosmer had two hits and three RBI, including a 2-run homer. ACE 30 REMEMBERING YO--The morning of January 22, 2017 will always be remembered as one of the most tragic days in franchise history when word was received that pitcher Yordano Ventura had his life cut short due to a car accident in his native Dominican Republic...signed as a 17-year old in 2008, the fireballing righthander compiled a during his abbreviated Major League career...among many highlights, Ace will be most remembered for blanking the San Francisco Giants over 7.0 innings in Game #6 of the 2014 World Series to force a seventh and deciding game, while pitching with a heavy heart himself due to the untimely passing of his friend Oscar Tavares...to honor the late Ventura, all uniforms in 2017 will be adorned with the ACE 30 patch. WORTH THE RISP--Kennedy continued his prowess with runners in scoring position Monday, holding Oakland hitless in three RISP at bats...last season, he yielded a.192 average (23-for-120) with RISP, good for fourth among qualifying A.L. pitchers...it was also the sixth-best mark in Royals history (min. 125 batters faced) and lowest since David Cone (.150) in over his last 13 starts (since last August 4), Kennedy has held opposing hitters to 9-for-59 (.153) with RISP. STARTING SOMETHING--Last season, Ian matched a career high with 33 starts, while it was his seventh consecutive season with 30 starts or more...he s one of just five active Major League pitchers to make 30 starts or more in seven-straight campaigns, along with James Shields, Max Scherzer, Jon Lester and Cole Hamels, while his 227 starting assignments since 2010 are tied for third-most, trailing Shields (235) and Scherzer (230). EXTENDING THE STREAK--Kennedy collected four K s last Monday vs. Oakland, extending his streak to 241 consecutive outings with at least one strikeout...it s the second-longest active streak in the Majors, trailing only Boston s David Price (253), who has yet to pitch in last season, Ian recorded 8.46 strikeouts-per-9.0 IP (184 K in IP), the seventh-best mark in franchise history.
