Joey Lucchesi worked 4.0 innings, allowing just one hit and not a single run with four strikeouts against two walks...opposing batters are hitting.240 against him this season. Manuel Margot and Jose Pirela both homered for the Friars' 18th multihome run effort this year, and Hunter Renfroe logged a season high three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double. THE TIME OF TYSON: The Padres have won six of Tyson Ross' last eight starts since May 12...has posted a 3.04 ERA (15 ER, 40.1 IP) and is limiting opposing bats to a.227 average over the stretch...ross has utilized five pitches this season: four-seamer (47.2%), slider (45.7%), sinker (5.6%), cutter (1.4%) and changeup (0.1%), and he's tossed more sliders than any pitcher this season (677), throwing his slider for a strike more times than any pitcher (454). STARTING STRONG: Though the Padres have gone just 1-4 in the five games this roadtrip, Padres starters have owned a collective 1.71 ERA (5 ER, 26.1 IP) and opposing bats have hit just.165 against them (15-for-91)...in those five games, they've allowed 0.34 home runs per nine innings and a 2.50 so/bb ratio (20 strikeouts against eight walks). HOMER-HAPPY: Last night marked the Friars' 18th multi-home run game this season and their first since June ATL...the loss snapped an 11-game winning streak when the team combined for more than one homer in a game (now have an overall 14-4 record when they do so).
