Starter Jordan Lyles worked 4.2 innings, allowing a season-high tying seven hits...he relinquished five runs (earned), fanned four and walked four batters... his.255 strikeouts per batters faced this season headlines all SD starters. C A.J. Ellis is riding a seven-game hitting streak, going 9-for-22 (.409)...it's the longest active on the team, and it's the tied for the third-longest hitting streak of his career. INSIDE THE SERIES: With last night's victory, the Padres have won three of their last four games against the Dodgers, and they snapped a six-game losing streak at Dodger Stadium...a win today would be the second consecutive series the Padres would have claimed over LAD (won two of three in the Mexico Series), and it would be SD's first series win in Chavez Ravine since they won two of three from April 29-May1, the Padres are 1-5 in rubber games this season. MAKING MOVES: This morning, the Padres announced the acquisition of RHP Phil Hughes, cash and the 74th overall pick in the 2018 Draft (Competitive Balance Round B) from MIN in exchange for catcher Janigson Villalobos... Hughes, 31, has played part of 12 Major League seasons with NYY ( ) and MIN ( ), owning a career record with a 4.49 ERA...this season, made even appearances (two starts) for MIN, posting a 6.75 ERA (9 ER, 12.0 IP) with eight strikeouts and five walks. THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: In the nine games this roadtrip (since May 17), the Padres bullpen has owned a 2.05 ERA (6 ER, 26.1 IP)...only the Dodgers (2.01 ERA) and the Brewers (1.72 ERA) have lower marks in the NL in that time...opponent's seven RBI in that time vs. Padres relievers are the fewest against any bullpen. NON-ZERO STRAHM GAME: LHP Matt Strahm makes his debut today as a Padres starter, having owned a 4.91 ERA (4 ER, 9.1 IP) in six games out of the 'pen this season...it marks his fourth-career start (last was on June 27, 2017 at DET, while with KC), and Strahm has relied primarily on four pitches this season: four-seamer (66.2 percent), slider (16.6 percent), changeup (11.9 percent) and a curve (5.3 percent)...he looks to improve of first-pitch strikes, having thrown a strike to start an at-bat just 13.2 percent of the time this year. VAMOS VILLANUEVA!: 3B Christian Villanueva's 14 homers are the most in a single season of any Mexican-born rookie...they're the most homers of any Mexico native since Vinny Castilla hit 35 and Erubiel Durazo hit 22 in his 14 homers now tie with ATL's Ozzie Albie for the second-most in the National League, and only WSH's Bryce Harper has more homers in the NL (15)...he ties for sixth-most among all Major Leaguers. Earned his first career win on 5/6 vs. LAD, tossing a career-high 6.0 IP of scoreless ball in Monterrey, Mexico...also struck out five and walked one in SD's GETTING AHEAD: The Padre southpaw looks to improve of first-pitch strikes, having thrown a strike to start an at-bat just 13.2 percent of the time this year.
