Ellis contributed multiple hits apiece, and Freddy Galvis belted his third homer in as many games...the Padres hope to stave off a series sweep tonight, and they now have won three of their last six games and five of their last nine. ROBBIE-ING YOUR HITS, RUNS, ETC.: Robbie Erlin toes the rubber tonight for his first-career appearance vs. LAA...since July 1, he has posted a 1.64 ERA (4 ER, 22.0 IP) with 17 strikeouts against three walks across nine appearances (two starts)...he has walked just eight of the 267 batters he has faced this season, and his 1.03 walks per nine innings this season is the fifth-best mark of any pitcher this year who have made at least 31 appearances. ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD/NEAR THE OCEAN: This series vs. LAA is just the second series in which the Padres have ever hosted the Angels at Petco Park (first series was from May 18-20, 2012, when SD won two of three)...the Friars have an all-time record vs. the Halos since their first meeting on June 12, Anaheim. HI I'M FREDDY, AND I HIT HOME RUNS: Freddy Galvis has now homered in three consecutive games for the first time in his career, and he's one of six shortstops this season to homer in three-straight games... a homer tonight would tie Didi Gregorius for the longest homer streak this season by any shortstop...since the All-Star break, he leads the Padres with his.287 average,.552 SLG, six home runs, 17 RBI, 14 runs scored, 48 total bases, and 11 extra-base hits. WORKHORSES: The San Diego bullpen has worked innings this season, the third-most of any 'pen (behind TB's and MIA's ip)...laa relievers have combined for innings, the fourth-most of any bullpen. GETTING AHEAD: The Padres bullpen leads the Major Leagues in throwing first-pitch strikes with a 63.5 first-pitch strike percentage. STARTING: Since the All-Star break, SD starters have the highest ERA of any rotation (6.45), and the LA Angels' rotation have the second-highest ERA of any club's starters (.584). FRIARS IN THE OUTFIELD: The Padres outfield have 17 defensive runs saved this season, which are the fifth-most in the majors behind MIL (45), ARI (32), NYY (26) and STL (21)...SD outfielders have the lowest fielding percentage in the majors so far in '18 (.979), and they've committed 16 errors this season, the most of any NL club and second-most in the majors behind CWS's 17. 2 STARTING PITCHER NOTES #41 LHP Robbie Erlin (2-3, HURLIN' ERLIN: 27-year-old Robbie Erlin is set to make his fifth start of the season and the 30th of his career in Game 3 of this three-game set vs. LAA...it will mark his first career appearance against the Angels and just his fourth vs. an AL West team. ERLIN'S ARSENAL: This season, he's relied on five pitches: sinker (30.5%), four-seamer (28.2%), curve (21.5%), changeup (17.9%) and slider (1.9%). LAST TIME OUT: In his last outing, tossed 5.0 IP in his second consecutive start and did not receive a decision, giving up four runs on seven hits in the Padres' 8-4 MIL.
