Feedback is always welcme. 4-H..What is it All Abut? 4-H is a vluntary, educatinal prgram designed t meet the needs and interest f bys and girls. Membership t the 4-H club prgram begins when a child is at least age 8 and enrlled in 3 rd grade as f January 1 f current year r any yuth age 9 and abve is eligible fr prject membership, regardless f grade level. Ohi 4- H membership ends December 31 f the year in which an individual attains the age f 19. Clverbud membership begins when a child has reached age 5 and is enrlled in kindergarten as f January 1 f current year. Participatin and membership are pen t all such yuth withut regard t race, clr, natinal rigin, ethnic backgrund, scial-ecnmic situatin, r place f residence. The purpse f 4-H is t prvide learning experiences and pprtunities fr bys and girls which will help them grw and develp t the fullest f their ptential. Prjects, prgrams, and activities are tls used t help members in this regard. They shuld be adapted t fit the needs and interest f each persn r grup f persns. Althugh cmpetitin is a necessary part f 4-H, we must all be careful t remember that the real benefit cmes frm learning and nt winning. Skills learned and friendships made in 4-H will lng utlast any ribbns and awards wn! Althugh it is nt mandatry, mst 4-H members exhibit their 4-H prjects at the Allen Cunty Fair. All 4-H members exhibiting at the fair must abide by all rules established by the Allen Cunty Agricultural Sciety. **While we try t infrm all ur 4-H members abut cunty fair rules, we cannt adequately cver all rules and regulatins f the Allen Cunty Fair Bk in this handbk. It is the respnsibility f members t btain a cpy f the Allen Cunty Fair Bk when it is published in early spring t becme better infrmed, the Fair Bk is als available at allencfair.cm.

8 Thinking abut what t d fr yur 4-H prject? Ohi 4-H Prject Central is an easy way fr members t preview Ohi 4-H prject bks and resurces. Take a clser lk at a bk, find ut what thers have t say, and share yur experiences! Check it ut at 4-H Membership Prject Cmpletin: 1. Members must meet all requirements set frth by their club(s) as explained in individual prject guidelines. 2. Prject recrd bks must be cmpleted as utline in prject guidelines and signed upn cmpletin by the 4-H Advisr. 3. Members must cmplete prject judging. 4. Members must cmplete Quality Assurance by July 2, 2019 if applicable. 5. Members must cmplete Hrse Safety and Ethics by June 1, 2019 if applicable. Junir Fair Participatin Members need t be in gd standing with Allen Cunty 4-H and meet all 4-H club and cunty requirements as detailed in the current year s prject guidelines in rder t be eligible t participate in the Junir Fair prtin f the Allen Cunty Fair. Prject Cmpletin Details Review the Ohi 4-H Family Guide fr a better understanding f available 4-H prjects and select a prject after cnsidering interests, backgrund and resurces available. Once a prject is selected, begin by reading the frnt sectin f the bk fr step-by-step instructins fr cmpleting the prject. Speak with a club advisr and prject helpers t prvide guidance with a prject. Have fun! Cunty wned educatinal materials are available fr check ut by club advisrs based n availability frm the Extensin Office. Clubs will be held respnsible fr any damage t r missing parts f these items. Attend prject area specific clinics and events fr infrmatin and instructin if available. Attend Special Interest and/r Livestck Prject Judging t cmplete prject at the cunty level and be eligible fr Cunty and State Fair participatin. Be sure t review the Cunty calendar and newsletter fr times and lcatins. Bring a cmpleted prject/recrd bk with the advisr s signature. Check-in and wait fr yur turn t be judged. Review yur prject bk, bring a bk t read r plan t be there with a friend t spend sme time talking abut yur 4-H experiences while waiting yur turn. Participate in a ne-n-ne interview with a judge t answer questins abut yur 4-H and prject experience. Animal prjects: Participate in three t fur skill statins. T prepare, use yur prject bk, Resurce Handbks, Skillathn Kits and Quality Assurance training experiences. General Prjects: Bring items made, created, prduced, grwn, r designed and/r educatinal display as required fr yur specific prject(s). See Allen Cunty Fair Jr. Fair Premium Bk fr details.

9 Fr Fair Participate in bth setup befre fair and tear dwn after the fair if yur club has its wn bth. The Senir Fair Bard prvides a pht fair pass t 4-H members in gd standing. Members participating in Fair will receive ne pass gd fr each day f the fair. Check the Jr. Fair Premium bk fr ffice times and availability. Every 4-H member must make a Fair entry fr each prject that will be exhibited at the Allen Cunty Fair. Entries must be entered nline by July 1 st at Help with the planning and wrk needed fr yur club t have a great fair. Bring 4-H prjects required by exhibitin times t the Fair. Review the Junir Fair General Rules and Department Rules in the Fair bk annually. Care fr yur animal prjects thrughut fair week. Keep stalls and animals clean, fed, watered, and presentable t the public at all times. Check with the barn superintendents t see if yu have barn duty during the fair. Lists are usually psted if applicable. Shw gd sprtsmanship befre, during and after the fair. If yur club des nt have a bth, yu must display prjects in the Allen Cunty Bth. Cunty bth prjects drp ff times at the Junir Fair Office starting Mnday August 12th thru Thursday August 15th. N prjects will be accepted after 10:00 pm Thursday. 4-H Csts and Fees Club Fees Sme clubs charge per member fee and/r family fee based n their clubs activities. The amunt is based n what the club cvers with the fee. Club fees may be used twards refreshments, prject bk cst, bth decratins, club t-shirts, supplemental insurance, etc. Please ask yur club advisr abut their club fee structure. Many clubs als participate in fundraising pprtunities t ff-set these csts. Prject Bks Mst prject bks cst $6 - $10. Sme prjects require an additinal Resurce Handbk ($12-$21) that is purchased nce by the family and used fr all the prjects within an area by all members in the family. Check with yur 4-H advisr fr Prject Bk csts r lk at the Ohi 4 -H Family Guide at r Prject Items Every prject has sme cst beynd the 4-H bk. Fr sme prjects, this may be supplies and materials that yu already have at hme. Fr ther prjects, it may be required t invest in an animal and supplies fr its care, specialized equipment and/r ther items. Please keep this in mind when selecting prjects. Fair If members plan t participate in the Allen Cunty Junir Fair, there may be sme additinal csts assciated with their experience. Sme animal prjects will need t be tagged, Vet checked, and/r have Scrapie Tag. Review the Allen Cunty Fair Jr. Fair Premium Bk fr dates and details. 10 What is Expected f 4-H Parents? 1. Help yuth attend club meetings, activities, and events. Ntify the club advisr if the child can t attend a meeting/activity. Transprt yur child t all club meetings and activities. Yuth must attend a minimum number f their club meetings in rder t participate in fair with that club. 2. Participate in club and/r cunty fundraising events and pay the club dues. 3. Attend special events planned by the 4-H club and/r Cunty 4-H prgram. 4. Encurage and guide yur yuth s prject wrk. Dn t d their wrk. 5. Read the 4-H newsletter, mailings, prject requirements, Junir Fair rules and ther infrmatin. Use the cunty 4-H website t print ff frms, find prjects and fair requirements and find answers t questins. 6. Encurage yuth t participate in cunty prject judging, clinics/wrkshps, 4-H camp(s), public speaking pprtunities, Jr. Fair events and much mre. 7. Encurage yuth t keep up-t-date recrds and cmplete prjects. ( 8. Mdel a psitive attitude, gd sprtsmanship, respect and cperatin. 9. Assist with 4-H club activities in areas f interest and expertise teach a prject skill, help with a cmmunity service prject, plan a field trip, assist with fundraising, etc. 10. Help ut the club hst a meeting, prvide refreshments, and spnsr a cunty award. 11. Supprt the club by cperating with club advisrs and exhibiting a psitive attitude tward yuth s persnal and club 4-H gals. 12. Supprt yuth at cunty events and prgrams including the Cunty Fair and prvide supervisin at such events. What is Expected f 4-H Vlunteers? 1. Advance ntice f 4-H club meetings and/r a printed schedule f club meetings fr the year. 2. Prvide the fllwing infrmatin at ne f the first meetings: 4-H Family Guide Allen Cunty Handbk 4-H club attendance expectatins/cde f Cnduct. Prject selectins help and infrmatin n prject guidelines. 3. Prvide at all meetings: Review the 4-H Calendar, 4-H Newsletter r Recent Mailings frm the 4-H Office. Reminders f upcming deadlines, requirements, etc. What s cming up in the Club/Cunty and hw t get invlved. 4. Help in selecting, rdering, and receiving 4-H Prject Bks. 5. Prvide hands-n and mind-n learning experiences fr the 4-H yuth thrugh prject wrk, demnstratins, practice prject judging, livestck quality assurance and/r field trips/turs, etc. 6. Prvide the pprtunity fr yuth t give back t the cmmunity thrugh at least ne cmmunity service prject flwer gardens at the fairgrunds, adpt a family, picking up trash, supprting the 4-H Silent Auctin, etc. 7. Prvide the pprtunity fr yuth t build leadership skills thrugh serving as a club fficer, n a cmmittee, leading the American r 4-H pledges, participating in a business meeting, etc. 8. Prvide the pprtunity fr yuth t have FUN with friends (new and ld) thrugh recreatinal, scial, educatinal and/r cmpetitive activities. 9. Prvide a safe ad welcming envirnment fr yuth t learn and grw thrugh the 4-H prgram and wrk tgether t Make the Best Better.

11 4-H Ling Achievement Awards. 4-H members, age as f January 1 st, may apply fr ne f twenty State Achievement Prject Awards as well as the pprtunity t serve n State Junir Fair Bard and/r attend a variety f Stand and Natinal Cnferences. Camp. Members enjy utdr fun and adventure while learning and making new friends at 4-H Camp. Camping pprtunities are available fr Clverbuds (day camp nly), members and teens with sme fcused in a particular prject area. Clverbuds. 4-H members age 5 and in Kindergarten thrugh 2 nd grade r until they reach the age and grade requirements fr 4-H prject membership. Clverbuds may nt enrll in cmpetitive 4-H Prjects. 4- H Clverbuds may create a prject t be judged prir t fair abut their 4-H experience r tpic f chice. The prject is then displayed in the Yuth Activities Building during the fair. Clverbud Shw-N-Tell. Shw and Tell is basically a mck judging fr yur Clverbud. We want t get them as used t the judging prcess as much as we can befre they becme big 4-H kids! This year we will be having the kids judged by sme f the Jr. Fair Ryalty. They will have a scre sheet just like the lder kids have fr their judging. They will be asked the 4-H pledge, 4-H Clrs, the 4-H mtt and t tell a little bit abut their prject. Cunty Placings. Cunty placings will be psted 2 weeks befre the start f the Allen Cunty Fair. This list included the 1 st placing thru utstanding placings. These are different frm the State Fair Delegates and Alternates. DUNF Drug Use Ntificatin Frm. This frm indicates yur prject animal has met all drug withdrawal perids at time f exhibitin. Ohi Department f Agriculture requires this frm fr exhibitin f market beef, market hgs, market lambs, market gats, meat chickens, lactating dairy gats r dairy cws. One per animal/pen f chickens. These frms are available at time f check-in and must be cmpleted at time f weigh in and cmpleted crrectly fr the animal t shw. Family Guide. Resurce that lists all the H prjects including a brief descriptin, age guidelines, skill level and State Fair eligibility. Junir Fair Premium Bk. Resurce with all the rules and guidelines fr participating in the Allen Cunty Fair. This resurce is useful when making nline fair entries. This bk is currently prvided t all families by a generus dnatin by Ptash but in the future will nly be available nline at allencfair.cm. Livestck Auctin Check. Paid by the Allen Cunty Fair fr animals sld thrugh the Jr. Fair Livestck Sale. Checks will be available after the buyer has paid. All exhibitrs must turn in a thank yu card fr each buyer t the Jr. Fair Office after the auctin. The cards shuld be in an unsealed, addressed and stamped envelpe. The administratin ffice will need the exhibitrs SS# if the premium mney is ver $600. Livestck Ownership. All animals must be wned and cared fr by the exhibitr as f June 1 st, unless therwise stated in the department rules f the Jr. Fair Premium Bk. Member Opprtunities. Teens may serve as leaders within a club as fficers and peer mentrs and at the cunty level as members f the Jr. Fairbard, Camp Cunselrs, Tech Wizards and Jr. Leaders. PAS. All 4-H yuth wh participate in the Allen Cunty Fair will receive a new pht ID each year. The ID must be presented each time the exhibitrs enters the gate at the fair, it is needed t pick up yur fair premium vucher frm the Jr. Fair Office, t cash ur premium vucher at the premium windw at the Administratin Windw, and t pick up yur Livestck Auctin Check after the fair.

Annual prgram required fr members exhibiting market and lactating prject animals by the Ohi Department f Agriculture.
