The Missions wasted little time against Mike Foltynewicz. Rico Noel struck out to open the first but reached via a wild pitch. Following a sac bunt, Tommy Medica drove in the run on a broken-bat flare into right. Corpus Christi leveled the score in the third. Jio Mier led off with a walk and raced to third via a single to right by Drew Muren. Ronny Torreyes was next and hit a sharp groundball past the diving shortstop Jeudy Valdez, sending Mier home. Foltynewicz walked a pair to open the third and Yeison Asencio drove them home on a double down the left-field line. Meanwhile, Sampson allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five. Lefty Jeff Ibarra tossed two innings and Jeremy McBryde notched his second save in as many nights. T.J. Geith worked around two walks and struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings for the Hooks. Andrew Robinson, who stranded two in the seventh, was charged with an unearned run in the eighth.
