With the score level at 2 and the bases loaded in the 10th, A.J. Reed, for the 2nd time on the night, beat the wrap on a double-play ball to score the go-ahead run. During the next at-bat, Hernandez pulled off a straight steal off home for a key insurance run. Aaron West worked around an error in the home half to notch his 4th save. The Hooks carried a 2-0 lead into the 8th thanks to Michael Feliz. The Missions mustered 4 hits and 2 walks against him. Juan Minaya started the 8th and surrendered an infield single to Tyson Gillies. With 2 away, rehabbing San Diego Padre Cory Spangenberg belted a triple over the head of Hernandez in center to pull the Missions within a run. Jandel Gustave entered from the pen and registered the final out, stranding Spangenberg at third base. Alberth Martinez opened the San Antonio 9th with a base hit to right field. Following an error, Yeison Asencio sent a flare into left, plating the tying run. Gustave retired the next 3 hitters to force extras. McCullers managed to only get one out as the Rangers scored 6 runs on 7 hits, including a 2-run home run by Chin-Soo Choo. The 21-year-old Tampa native went 5-3 with a 2.48 ERA,.207 BAA and 1 complete game in his first 13 starts for the Astros. As the youngest starting pitcher in the Major Leagues, McCullers struck out 79 against 28 walks in 76.2 frames. His 79 strikeouts rank 2nd all-time in club history for a player s first 14 career games, behind RHP Tom Griffin (94 in 1969).
