It marked Corpus Christi s 5th last-at-bat triumph this year. Luis Marte broke a 6-6 stalemate in the 14th with a 2- out solo home run against lefty Albert Minnis. Nick Tanielu answered with his second home run in as many nights, a lead-off shot in the home half off David Perez. Mott Hyde then struck out, but the pitch sailed in the dirt and Hyde reached first base when Ronald Guzman dropped a throw from catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Ramon Laureano was hit by a pitch and James Ramsay laid down a sac bunt forcing an intentional walk to Nolan Fontana. Garrett Stubbs faced this bases-loaded situation in the 12th but grounded into a double play. Stubbs was not deterred a second time, launching a fly ball onto the warning track in right field to send the faithful home happy. Corpus Christi scored three runs in the seventh to level the score at 4. Danry Vasquez notched a key 2-run single in the frame. The Hooks trailed 6-5 in the ninth until Conrad Gregor belted a one-out solo home run onto the berm in right field. Corpus Christi is now 8-7 in extra-inning games this year. C Garrett Stubbs led the charge, going 4-for-7 with a run, double and 2 RBIs, including the game-winner. 2B-1B Nick Tanielu, 1B Conrad Gregor and RF Ramon Laureano each had 3 hits. Stubbs has hits in 8 of 10 Texas League assignments, and owns a.368 batting average and.978 OPS as a Hook. Tanielu has homered in back-to-back games, and is batting.305 during the month of July. LOWERING THE HORNS: Corpus Christi s embattled bullpen performed admirably last night, spreading 3 runs over 10 innings. RHP Eric Peterson, who relieved RHP Keegan Yuhl in the 5th, retired 11 of the first 12 before surrendering a double and a single to end his night. RHP Ryan Thompson and LHP Chris Cotton then took over, combining for 5 1/3 scoreless innings. MARATHON MISSIVE: Last night s contest featured 15 runs, 37 hits, 9 walks and 113 at-bats. A total of 10 hurlers fired 446 pitches. The 4 hour and 56 minute affair was the longest game, in terms of time, involving Corpus Christi this year. The Hooks played a 14-inning game against Midland on April 25 which lasted four hours and 30 minutes. NEW ADDITION: RHP Trent Thornton, who was promoted to Corpus Christi from High-A Lancaster yesterday, is in line to start Tuesday night at San Antonio. Thornton, a 5th-round pick of the Astros last year out of UNC, went 7-4 with a 4.12 ERA in 17 games (14 starts). The 22-year-old right-hander struck out 89 against 16 walks and 91 hits in 89.2 IP. The Cal League batted.265 with 14 home runs against him. Thornton ranked 4th in the league in WHIP (1.19) and tied for 2nd in HR allowed. His 1.49 BB-per-9.0 IP ratio slotted 2nd among starters. Thornton is 1 of 2 California League pitchers to muster a shutout, doing so in the opener of a July 14 doubleheader vs. San Jose. The former UNC Tar Heel won his last 4 Lancaster starts, posting a 2.70 ERA while striking out 28 against 2 walks in 26.2 frames. Thompson last worked Tuesday, hurling 6.0 innings at Rancho Cucamonga.
