1 NW Arkansas (7-5, 46-36) at Corpus Christi (5-7, 39-43) Wednesday, July 5, 2017 Whataburger Field Corpus Christi, TX 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: Home Road Series 0-4 Sweeps W 1 Streak 1-4 Last Last 10 HAPPY FOURTH: Framber Valdez fired six innings of two-hit ball and Garrett Stubbs cracked three extra-base hits Tuesday night as the Hooks beat Arkansas, 4-1, before a sellout crowd of 8,753 fans at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Independence Day triumph snapped Corpus Christi s losing streak at five. Valdez, making his second Double-A appearance, fanned nine and walked three. He did not allow a hit until Chuck Taylor s two-out double in the sixth. Stubbs opened the second with a double to left field off Justin De- Fratus. One out later, Dexture McCall sent an RBI single up the middle, stopping Corpus Christi s scoreless streak at 19 innings. J.D. Davis made it 2-0 Hooks in the fifth with a sac fly to right field. Stubbs, who doubled to lead off the fourth, homered to begin the sixth. The first two Travelers reached in the seventh, ending Valdez s night. Ryan Thompson entered and induced three groundouts to end the frame. Kyle Waldrop s chopper to the right side pushed across the lone Arkansas run. With one away and runners at first and second in the Arkansas eighth, Andrew Thome was called upon to face Ryan Casteel. On the first pitch, Casteel hit a ground ball down the third base line. Davis made a back-handed stop, raced to third for the force and fired a strike to first for a 5-3 double play. Michelena notched his third single of the night in the ninth. He took second, third and home on a string of wild pitches from Zac Curtis for a 4-1 Corpus Christi edge. Thome worked around a one-out single in the home half for his sixth save.
