1 Frisco (12-9) at Corpus Christi (12-9) Saturday, April 29, 2017 Whataburger Field Corpus Christi, TX 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: 6-5 Home 6-4 Road Series 0-0 Sweeps L 2 Streak 2-3 Last Last 10 NASTY NINTH: Frisco rode for four runs in the ninth inning Friday night, shocking Corpus Christi with an 8-6 triumph before 6,555 fans in the series opener at Whataburger Field. Trailing 6-4, the Riders managed four consecutive singles against Riley Ferrell to begin the ninth. Scott Heineman capped this sequence with a sharply-hit ground ball past a drawn-in Bryan Muniz at first base, making it a 6-5 affair. Isiah Kiner-Falefa was next and hit a sac fly to left field, but Bobby Boyd dropped the ball, allowing two runs to score. Jose Trevino pushed the fourth run across after hitting into a double play. The Hooks established a 6-3 lead after seven frames thanks to a trio of two-out swings. In the first, Alejandro Garcia seared a tworun triple into the right field corner off Connor Sadzeck. With the bases loaded in the fourth, Ramon Laureano snuck a single through the left side, scoring Jamie Ritchie and Bryan Muniz. Laureano added a two-run, three-bagger in the sixth off Cody Palmquist. Defensive lapses by Corpus Christi contributed to two of Frisco s first four runs. In the fourth, Royce Bolinger s pop up dropped on the left side of the diamond, allowing Eric Aguilera to come home. With two away in the eighth, shortstop Mott Hyde mishandled a throw from the outfield on Luke Tendler s single. Trevino scored from first. Hooks starter Cy Sneed hurled five innings of two-run ball. Dating back to the end of 2016, the 23- year-old from Charlotte, NC, went 4-3 with a 3.32 ERA with Corpus Christi, averaging 9.6 strikeouts per walk. MARISNICK BEGINS REHAB: Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick embarks upon a rehab assignment with Corpus Christi this evening. Marisnick, who suffered a mild concussion Sunday after slamming into the outfield fence at Tropicana Field, is batting 2nd as the designated hitter in tonight s lineup. Marisnick is hitting.286 with 2 solo home runs in 17 games for the Astros this season. He was acquired from Miami, along with RHP Francis Martes, IF Colin Moran and a 2015 draft pick (OF Daz Cameron, 37th overall) in July 2014 for former Hooks RHP Jarred Cosart, IF Enrique Hernandez and OF Austin Wates. Originally 3rd-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2009 out of Riverside (CA) Poly High School, Marisnick has stolen 48 bases in 67 attempts for a 72% success rate in his big league career. The 26-year-old has played in 373 games over parts of 5 seasons in the Majors, making his debut in 2013 with Miami. LATE-NITE WOES: Last night marked the first time in 10 occurrences the Hooks lost a game in which they scored first. Heading into Thursday s series finale with Midland, Corpus Christi had been undefeated when leading after 6 innings. The club is now 7-2 in this situation. The Hooks are currently 10-1 when ahead after 8. THE CORPUS CHRISTI KID: Corpus Christi native and Frisco catcher Jose Trevino made a triumphant Whataburger Field debut last night, belting a home run to left field on the first pitch of the second inning. Trevino, who did not play against the Hooks last weekend due to injury, is hitting.297 with 1 home runs and 4 RBIs in 10 games. The top-flight backstop is 3-for-7 (43%) in the caught-stealing department. Trevino received his 2016 Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award in a pregame ceremony this past Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. MiLB President Pat O Conner presented the award which is given annually to the best defensive player at each position across all 10 full-season leagues. Trevino hit.303 with 30 doubles, 9 home runs and 68 RBIs in 109 games for High Desert last season. The John Paul II High School product led all California League backstops in fielding percentage (.998) and caught-stealing percentage (48%). Trevino, tabbed the Rangers Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year, struck out in just 10.5% of his plate appearances, which led the Texas system. The 24-year-old was drafted in the 6th round in 2014 out of Oral Roberts University. KING RALPH: New Braunfels native Ralph Garza impressed in his Double-A Thursday. Garza, who officially joined the club Wednesday from Buies Creek, struck out the side in a perfect 7th. He worked around a lead-off walk and two-out single in the 8th. Born in Edinburg, TX, Garza was selected by Houston in the 26th round of the 2014 draft out of the University of Oklahoma. He went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 6 games for the Buies Creek Astros, striking out 12 against 5 walks and 12 hits in 10.0 innings.
