The Hounds sent 12 men to bat in the first, scoring eight runs on eight hits. Texas A&M product Corbin Martin, making his Double-A debut, managed to record only one out. CC cut the deficit in half in the next frame. Taylor Jones was the first of nine Hooks to bat in the inning, and Jones launched a home run onto the berm in straightaway center field. Carmen Benedetti followed with a double and back-to-back singles by Nick Tanielu and Josh Rojas made it 8-2. Kyle Friedrichs ended the hit parade by coaxing a double play. Alex De Goti then doubled to left, driving in Tanielu. Ryne Birk capped the barrage with an RBI single. Midland answered in the home half when Seth Brown, who also doubled and homered, sent a two-out RBI single into center off lefty Chris Nunn. White made it 10-4 with a home run to left field in the third. Friedrichs scattered three singles from the third through the fifth but surrendered a Tanielu solo dinger in the sixth. The Hooks final run came in the eighth against lefty Cody Stull. Benedetti opened with his second double of the day, and then came home on Rojas single into center. Erasmo Pinales was the only Corpus Christi pitcher to keep the Hounds off the board, spinning three frames of shutout relief. 2 PAGE 2 ROSTER UPDATE: The Astros have promoted LHP Chris Nunn to Triple-A Fresno and shipped RHP Brendan Feldmann to Corpus Christi from extended. Feldmann made 4 appearances with Corpus Christi from April 17-26, logging a 4.15 ERA. He did not allow a run in his first 3 assignments, but was touched for 2 markers on 3 hits and 2 walks in 1.2 innings April 26 vs. Midland. A non-drafted free agent pickup of Houston last June, Feldmann made 1 appearance for Triple-A Fresno before beginning his Hooks tenure. The Washington, MO native earned a victory for Triple-A Fresno April 11, yielding 3 runs on 4 hits over 2.0 innings vs. Tacoma. He went 2-1 with a 0.54 ERA (1 ER/16.2 IP) in 12 games for the GCL Astros last year. Feldmann struck out 21 while issuing only 1 walk. He pitched collegiately at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. Nunn fills RHP Francis Martes spot on the Fresno roster. The setback occurred during the opening road trip when Arkansas swept the Hooks in a 3- game series at Dickey-Stephens Park. Corpus Christi has won 5 of 7 sets to start The Hooks and RockHounds split a 4- game set at Whataburger Field last week. OFF NIGHT: In the 5 games leading up to last night s 12-6 defeat, Hooks pitchers boasted a 1.15 ERA and had struck out 48 batters against 33 hits thru 47 innings. Midland swatted 3 home runs last night. It was the first game this year the Hooks allowed more than 1 dinger in a contest. Corpus Christi has yielded 13 home runs in 2018, which is tied with Tulsa for lowest in the Texas League. Hooks hurlers featured a 3.50 ERA in the last 10 games. KEEPING UP WITH JONES: 1B Taylor Jones, who launched a home run to straightaway center field last night, upped his batting average to a Texas League best.385. Jones also paces the circuit with a.473 OBP, and his.667 slugging average is tied for 2nd. The Gonzaga product continues to mash on the road, hitting.511 with 7 doubles, 3 home runs, 13 RBIs, and a OPS. Jones is 7-for-13 in this series. ROJAS ON A ROLL: IF Josh Rojas is 5-for-10 with 1 double, 1 triple and 2 RBIs in 3 games to begin his Hooks tenure. Rojas, who has reached in 7 of 12 Double-A plate appearances, batted.311 with 20 runs, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, and 10 RBIs in 24 games for Buies Creek to start the season.
