Luis Mendez made it a two-run game with an RBI single into right field. Reed Garrett worked a ninth to pick up his 11th save. Sunday s series opener featured eight lead changes, with the clubs combining for nine runs over the final three innings. Randy Cesar started the scoring for Corpus Christi with a two-run double in the first. The Hooks were also bolstered by home runs from De Goti, Quintana, and Carmen Benedetti. Last week, Quintana went 7-for-13 with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, and 10 RBIs. This 4-game surge has raised his season batting average from.248 to.272. The run began last Monday when Quintana belted a trio of homers and plated 6 runs in his first 3 at-bats vs. NW Arkansas. Quintana became the 3rd player in club history to record a 3-homer game, joining the ranks of J.D. Davis (2016) and Domingo Santana (2013). His 5 runs scored in the contest also set a new club record. Quintana and SS Alex De Goti are the only Hooks to boast a pair of multi-homer performances this year. The 22-year-old tossed two innings out of the bullpen at Security Bank Ballpark on Thursday, allowing an earned run and three hits while striking out a pair. He is slated to start Wednesday night s game at Whataburger Field. Perez went 3-3 with a 3.84 ERA in 17 games (11 starts) in 72.2 innings in the Carolina League. At the time of his promotion, he leads the circuit in batting average against (.196) and is tied for second in strikeouts (83).
