Corbin Martin made a strong start and Stephen Wrenn handed the Hooks a 2-1 advantage with a solo home run to left field in the sixth. Justin Ferrell preserved the edge by tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Ralph Garza entered to work the ninth, and was greeted by Seth Brown, who lined a lead-off triple to center, helping the Hounds tie the score. The Hooks engineered a bases-loaded scoring chance in the 10th. Pinch-hitter Carmen Benedetti pushed a single past the drawn-in second baseman, Eli White, allowing two runs to score. Later, Wrenn smacked a two-run double to right field, putting the Hooks in front, 6-2. Josh Rojas cracked a soft grounder to the right side, sending Pineda home to complete the five-run frame. Garza battled control problems in the home half. A throwing error by lefty Kit Scheetz staged RockHounds at second and third with no outs, and the Hooks desperately clinging to a 7-6 lead. Scheetz proceeded to strikeout Brown, and then walked right-handed Tyler Marincov intentionally. Benedetti is now hitting.300 with 7 RBIs in 7 games since coming off the disabled list. The former Michigan Wolverine has reached base in 45 of 50 games this season. EXTRA EFFORT: Last night marked Corpus Christi s first extra-inning contest since a 12-inning triumph May 31 at Springfield. Despite being outscored from the 10th onward, the Hooks are 5-3 in extra-inning affairs. Midland is 0-6. ALL HART: LHP Ryan Hartman picked up his 3rd consecutive win last night, giving him 9 on the year. Hartman, who has allowed 2 ER or less in 14 of his 18 outings, ranks 2nd in the Texas League in victories, ERA (2.85), strikeouts (100), WHIP (1.22) and batting average against (.259). The lefty from Anaheim, CA is now 5-0 with a 1.69 ERA in his last 7 outings. Hartman is trying to become the Hooks first 10-game winner since RHP Kyle Westwood notched 11 in The club record is 14 triumphs, achieved by RHP David Martinez in RUNNING DOWN A DREAM: Corpus Christi leads the Double-A ranks with 133 stolen bases. OF Ruben Sosa added 20 steals in 24 attempts. FINE FIRST IMPRESSION: LHP Brett Adcock authored an impressive Double-A debut Thursday night, retiring 9 of the 10 men he faced. Including his Carolina League tenure, Adcock has not allowed a run in his last 16 innings. A 4th-round pick of the Astros in 2016, the 6-1, 266-pound lefty is 5-3 with a 2.43 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 17 appearances this season. Adcock is averaging 9.1 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.
