1 Midland (23-33, 56-69) at Corpus Christi (33-22, 76-48) Tuesday, August 21, 2018 Whataburger Field Corpus Christi, TX 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: Home Road Series 10-4 Sweeps L 2 Streak 3-2 Last Last 10 SOGGY FINALE GOES TO CARDS: The Hooks dropped a rain-shortened game at Hammons Field on Sunday afternoon, losing 2-0 to the Springfield Cardinals. Play was stopped in the middle of the fifth inning and did not resume. The teams also experienced a rain delay prior to first pitch that lasted an hour and 48 minutes. Once the ballgame started, the Hooks faced St. Louis Cardinals right -hander Adam Wainwright. Wainwright was on a rehab assignment and tossed two perfect innings to begin the game. He was replaced by fellow rehabber Carlos Martinez in the third, who also turned in a scoreless frame. Corpus Christi righty Forrest Whitley made the start and tossed three scoreless innings to begin his outing. He allowed Springfield's first hit on Yairo Munoz's one-out double and was then replaced by Carlos Sierra. Sierra then surrendered a two-run homer to Johan Mieses as the Cardinals took a 2-0 advantage. Right-hander Hector Mendoza entered the game out of Springfield's bullpen and tossed a scoreless fourth. In the fifth, the Hooks put two baserunners on but could not score. Shortly after the conclusion of the frame, heavy rain began to fall at Hammons Field. Play did not resume as the Cardinals came away with a 2-0 victory.
