The production was more than enough for Brian Howard, who held the Hooks to two hits over seven innings. Howard struck out eight and walked two. 2 PAGE 2 ALCALA SHIPPED: Following last night s game, the Astros announced a trade which sent right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala and outfielder Gilberto Celestino to Minnesota for right-handed reliever Ryan Pressly. Alcala, who was originally scheduled to start for the Hooks Friday night, was 2-3 with a 3.54 ERA and.243 batting average against in 9 games for Corpus Christi. The 22-year-old struck out 37 and walked 17 in 40.2 Texas League innings. Alcala, rated by Baseball America has owning the best fastball in the Houston system, Alcala permitted 2 ER or less in 7 of his 9 outings with the Hooks. He is averaging 9.3 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched this season Celestino also spent time with Corpus Christi this year, going 0-for-8 in 3 games from May 30-June 3. Celestino swiped 14 bags without being caught for the ValleyCats. STOP THE SLIDE: Corpus Christi s losing streak has reached a season-high 6 games. Prior to this stretch, the Hooks longest run of setbacks was 4, when the club was swept by San Antonio in a 4-game series May 5-8 at Wolff Stadium. The Hooks have now dropped 10 of the last 13 games. Before this downturn, Corpus Christi had lost back-to-back games only once from May 26-July 14. The Hooks were during that torrid stretch. A BENNY BLAST: OF Carmen Benedetti belted a 3-run home run in the 9th inning last night, helping the Hooks avoid being shutout for the 2nd time in the last 3 games. SINTON PIRATES HONORED: 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of Sinton High School winning back-to-back state baseball titles in 1988 and In the last 29 years, only 1 3A school has managed to defend its crown.
