2 PAGE 2 BIG LEAGUER: IF/OF Alex Bregman is slated to make is highly-anticipated Major League debut tonight as the Astros host the New York Yankees. Bregman, the 2nd overall pick in last year s draft, batted.306 with 71 runs, 22 doubles, 2 triples, 20 home runs, 61 RBIs and 7 steals in 80 games between Fresno and Corpus Christi this season. The LSU product reached base at a.406 clip and posted a.986 OPS. Bregman was promoted to Triple-A after going 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs at the Texas League All-Star Game. He hit safely in 15 of his first 18 games with the Grizzlies, and will appear tonight at Minute Maid Park attempting to break out of an 0-for-11 slump. Bregman, 22, hit.297 with 54 runs, 16 doubles, 2 triples, 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 5 steals in 62 games for Corpus Christi. At the time of his Triple-A summons, the LSU product led the Texas League in OPS (.975) and runs scored (54). He also ranked among the circuit leaders in extra-base hits (32, T-2nd), home runs (T-3rd), batting (4th), RBIs (T-4th) and total bases (132, 5th). FRIAS & FONTANA TO FRESNO: The Astros have promoted RHP Edison Frias and IF Nolan Fontana to Triple-A Fresno. Frias dispatched 11 of the first 13 batters Friday night en route to a 7-inning triumph against Frisco. The 25-year-old from Gaspar Hernandez, DR, has limited the Riders to 1 run in each of his last 2 starts. During this run, Frias has struck out 10 against 2 walks in 13.0 innings. For the year, Frias stands 4-1 with a 2.44 ERA and 1 save in 15 appearances (10 starts), holding the Texas League to a.222 batting average. He would lead the circuit in ERA, but is 5 frames shy of the qualifying threshold. Fontana, who was optioned to Corpus Christi from Fresno on July 14, hit.278 with 4 runs, 4 doubles and 4 RBIs in 10 games for the Hooks. The slick-fielding shortstop worked 8 walks against 5 strikeouts, reaching base in all but 1 of his Texas League assignments. Fontana, a member of Houston s 40-Man Roster, was batting.195 with 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 21 RBIs in 73 games for the Grizzlies. A 2nd-round pick of the Astros in 2012 out of the University of Florida, he appeared in 13 Grapefruit League games this spring. Fontana was a key contributor on Fresno s Triple-A National Championship club last year, recording a.369 on-base percentage. The 25-year-old from Winter Garden, FL, was a 2014 Texas League Midseason All-Star, batting.262 with 33 runs, 21 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer, 26 RBIs and 5 stolen bases in 66 games. Fontana led the league with a.418 on-base percentage despite missing the last 2 months due to a broken finger. NUNEZ JOINS CLUB: Houston has assigned IF Antonio Nunez to Corpus Christi. Nunez is hitting.247 with 58 runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 25 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in 83 games between Quad Cities and Lancaster this year.
