The Hooks, who had swept their first 3 twin bills, opened this 5-game series with a 2-1 victory. Mark Appel tossed a season-high 7.0 innings in the complete-game effort. All San Antonio could muster against him was an unearned run in the first. Appel, who struck out 6 without issuing a walk, retired 16 of 17 Missions heading into the 7th. Alberth Martinez cracked a lead-off single but Duanel Jones promptly grounded into a double play. Taylor Lindsey lined out to center to end the game. Corpus Christi s runs came on sac flies by Colin Moran and Jon Kemmer in the 1st and 3rd, respectively. Hunter Renfroe led the charge for San Antonio in Game 2 with a pair of solo home runs. The Hooks lone tally came in the first. Teoscar Hernandez reached on a force play and took 2 bases on a wild pitch. Kemmer was next and lined a 3-1 pitch from Aaron Northcraft into left field for a short-lived advantage.
