1 Midland (38-21, 71-58) at Corpus Christi (30-29, 77-52) Friday, August 26, 2016 Whataburger Field Corpus Christi, TX 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: Home Road Series 6-1 Sweeps L 1 Streak 3-2 Last Last 10 HOUNDS SURVIVE DUEL: Viosergy Rosa and Yairo Munoz clubbed doubles as the RockHounds scored three times in the 11th inning Thursday night to achieve a 5-2 victory over the Hooks at Whataburger Field. Trent Thornton and Daniel Gossett sparred over the first seven innings. J.D. Davis gave the Hooks a 1-0 lead in the second with a lead-off home run to left field. Two outs later, Roberto Pena doubled to left-center but Gossett struck out six of the next seven batters. He fanned a career-best 10, holding Corpus Christi to one walk and four hits. Thornton kept the Hounds off the scoreboard until J.P. Sportman s two-out solo blast in the fifth. Thornton struck out seven and did not issue a free pass. Michael Freeman and Kyle Smith both pitched scoreless innings of relief, sending the 1-1 affair into extra innings. Bolstered by a ninth, Smith returned for the 10th but promptly surrendered a go-ahead lead-off home run to Andy Paz. The Hooks answered in the home half. Andy Ferguson hit a fly-ball double down the right field line. After a sac bunt, James Ramsay sent a slow chopper to first base. Ferguson scored on the play as Rosa s throw home was wide. The Hooks, who went 0-for-10 with men in scoring position, had the winning run at second with one out but failed to score. Smith and Jacob Dorris could not keep the Hounds at bay in the 11th. Midland and Hooks pitchers combined to strike out 31 batters on the night.
