With the game level at 1 in the 10th, Antonio Nunez, after being down in the count 0-2, coaxed a lead-off walk from Clayton Cook. Nunez advanced to second on a wild pitch, and achieved third base when Bryan De La Cruz cracked a line drive into center field. Catcher Jose Trevino missed handled the next pitch, allowing Nunez to score the winning run from third base. Rehabbing Astro right-hander Collin McHugh held the RoughRiders to one unearned run and four hits in six frames. McHugh fanned two and walked one, throwing 48 of 69 pitches for strikes. Corpus Christi s first tally came in the third courtesy of a two-out double off the bat of Jason Martin. J.D. Davis was next and smoked a line drive into center field for his 60th RBI of the season. Frisco lefty Yohander Mendez permitted just two more hits until his exit after the seventh. Mendez struck out eight and walked one. 2 PAGE 2 REHAB REPORT: Astros RHP Collin McHugh, working his way back from a right-elbow impingement, turned in his 4th rehab assignment with Corpus Christi last night. It marked the 2nd consecutive appearance in which McHugh did not allow an earned run. In his last 3 appearances, the 30-year-old from Atlanta logged a 1.28 ERA while striking out 11 against 3 walks in 14.0 IP. ROSTER UPDATE: The Astros have activated RHP Josh James from Corpus Christi s disabled list. James, who last appeared June 30, is 3-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 14 games (7 starts) for the Hooks. He has struck out 51 against 23 walks in 57 innings with the league hitting.214. James has permitted just 2 earned runs in his last 3 outings (13.0 IP). The 24-year-old has faced Frisco 4 times (2 GS), logging a 1.59 ERA and.190 batting average against. James has struck out 14 RoughRiders against 5 walks and 12 hits in 17.0 innings. Houston also recently promoted RHP Franklin Perez to Corpus Christi from Buies Creek. Perez, rated by MLB.com as Houston s No. 6 prospect, went 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA in 12 games (10 GS) for the Astros High-A affiliate. He struck out 53 and walked 16 in 54.1 IP, holding the Carolina League to 4 home runs and a.191 batting average. Perez last appeared July 10 when permitted just 1 unearned run for a 4-inning save at Down East. Perez did not allow a run in his first 3 outings this year, striking out 14 against 3 walks and 3 hits in 14.1 frames. He has held the opposition to 2 hits or less in 7 of 12 games. The 19-year-old sits at No. 54 in Baseball America s listing of the top 100 prospects in the game. A MIGHTY PEN: Right-handers Riley Ferrell and Andrew Walter limited Frisco to 2 singles and 1 walk over the final 4.0 innings last night. Walter, who picked up his first Double-A save Thursday in Midland, has not allowed a run in his last 2 outings (4.0 IP). Ferrell extended his scoreless streak to 3 appearances, covering 3.2 IP. The flame-thrower from College Station owns a 2.57 ERA in his last 10 games, striking out 15 while walking 2 in 14.0 IP. Hooks relievers have permitted just 8 runs (7 ER) in the last 9 games for a 1.78 ERA. During this run, the bullpen has racked up 4 wins and 3 saves, while striking out 34 against 10 walks and 32 hits in 35.1 innings. CRUZ CONTROL: OF Bryan De La Cruz is batting.286 (4-for-14) with 3 runs, 1 double, 1 homer and 2 RBIs in 6 games with the Hooks. The 20-year-old cracked his first Double-A home run in Saturday s series finale in Midland. His first Hooks hit was Wednesday, sending a ninth-inning double into the gap in left-center. The extra effort helped Corpus Christi avoid being shutout. It was also the club s first pinch-hit knock in De La Cruz batted.277 in 13 games between Quad Cities and Tri-City before being promoted July 7. The Santo Domingo, DR, native began the year in extended spring training. He was signed by Houston in September 2013 at the age of 16. De La Cruz hit.239 with 29 runs, 4 doubles, 4 triples, 3 home runs and 18 RBIs in 44 contests for Tri-City & Greeneville last year. He played in 44 Gulf Coast League games in De La Cruz has worked predominantly in right field in his career, logging 16 assists. He is 9-for-19 in steal attempts.
