Sneed scattered six singles and two walks, throwing 56 of 85 pitches for strikes. The turning point came in the second as the first three RoughRiders reached via singles. Sneed responded by coaxing a shallow fly to right and a double play to end the inning. Another double play concluded the sixth. Ramon Laureano made a brilliant sliding catch deep into the right field corner, robbing Scott Heineman of extra bases and an RBI. Laureano then got to his feet and fired a strike to first base, cutting down Andy Ibanez at first base. The Hooks scratched a run in second against Collin Wiles. Dexture McCall seared a two-out double to the gap in right-center. Ryne Birk then cracked the first of three hits, an RBI single into left. Birk doubled the advantage in the fifth with a home run that landed in the lazy river in right. Corpus Christi staged another two-out rally in the sixth. Jon Singleton punched a base hit into right, and scored from first on Colin Walsh s double to left-center. Ramon Laureano cracked a two-bagger in the eighth off Joe Filomeno. Laureano later came around to score on an error by first baseman Eric Aguilera. Frisco s lone tally came in the ninth and was unearned. Undeterred by his own throwing error, Andrew Thome forced a double play to end the game. ANOTHER STELLAR START: RHP Cy Sneed is the first Hooks pitcher to compete 7.0 innings twice this season. Sneed, who beat Midland with a 7-inning performance last Thursday, has permitted just 2 runs on 11 hits (2 HR, 1 2B, 8 1B) in his last 2 starts. His performance was sorely needed as Hooks starters had posted a ERA in the previous 3 games. EXTRA EFFORT: Two-out hitting and 5 extra-base hits fueled the Hooks 4-1 triumph last night. It marked the most runs generated by Corpus Christi since a 4-2 win over Midland last Friday. In the 5 contests leading up to Thursday s series opener, the Hooks managed 10 total runs on 26 hits, with only 4 going for extra bases. TALL IN THE SADDLE: The Hooks, who halted their 4-game losing streak last night, now stand 17-8 vs. Frisco this season. This includes a 6-3 mark at Dr Pepper Ballpark. HILL ADDED TO PEN: RHP Kevin Hill joins Corpus Christi from High-A Buies Creek. Hill, who last worked July 26, yielded just 2 runs on 8 hits in 4 Carolina League games. The 24-year-old right-hander struck out 17 and walked 4 in 15.1 innings. Hill was selected by Houston in the 26th round last year out of the University of South Alabama. His season began in early May with a 14-game stint at Quad Cities in the Midwest League. Hill went 2-1 with 3.60 ERA and 3 saves in 14 appearances for the River Bandits. The Oklahoma City native is averaging 10.5 K per 9.0 IP in 2017.
