Luis Cruz worked around four walks and five hits in five innings. Cruz struck out six and stranded six. The lone run for the Missions came courtesy of a lead-off pop-fly double by Adam Buschini in the fifth. A fly out to left moved him to third and a line drive to center off the bat of Rymer Liriano chased Buschini home. Jordan Jankowski slammed the door with four shutout frames. He entered with a man on second and no outs in the sixth and managed to escape unscathed. Jankowski walked two and fanned 5, including two batters in the ninth. James Needy matched zeroes with Cruz thru the first four innings until the Hooks broke thru in the fifth. Jio Mier stroked a double down the left-field line to open the frame. Mier took third on a wild pitch and scored when Austin Hedges throw sailed past third base. Tyler Heineman then served a single into center and scampered to third on Rene Garcia s double to the gap in right. Three batters later, Nolan Fontana cracked a two-out, two-run single to right field, handing the Hooks a 3-1 lead. Matt Duffy tacked on another in the sixth when he belted a 2-0 pitch from Jeff Ibarra over the fence in left field.
