YESTERDAY'S RECAP Scott Alexander induced a game-ending fi elders choice by pinch-hitter Matt Davidson with the game-tying and go-ahead runs on base in Kansas City's 4-3 win. Adam Engel opened the ninth with a double and Yolmer Sánchez added a single but both were stranded to end the game. Brandon Moss drove in all four of the Royals runs with a grand slam in the fi rst... the slam followed three walks. Dylan Covey fell to 0-5 after allowing four runs on two hits and four walks in 5.2 IP... marked his fi rst start since 5/23 at Arizona. García is in position to become the fi rst White Sox player since Frank Thomas in 2000 (.407) to lead the American League in average vs. left-handers (STATS) no Sox player since at least 1974 has led the majors in average vs. LHP. PITO POWER José Abreu has hit 30 home runs for the third time in his career, and needs eight RBI to reach 100 for the fourth time. In the opener, 3B Jake Burger went 3-6 with two doubles and a RBI, RF Alex Call fell a home run shy of the cycle and SS Mitch Roman was 3-6 with three RBI. Advanced Rookie Great Falls defeated Missoula on Monday to advance to the Pioneer League Championship Series vs. Ogden. RARE AIR AHEAD Yolmer Sánchez needs two triples and two steals to become the 10th Sox to record a season with 10-plus 2B/3B/HR/SB. He would join Minnie Minoso (three times), Carl Reynolds (twice), Ray Durham, Lance Johnson, Sammy Sosa, Jorge Orta, Jim Rivera, Gee Walker and Mike Kreevich (once each). The White Sox have gone vs. the AL Central since 2009, with their only winning record coming in 2012 (37-35). 30 FOR 79 José Abreu on Sunday reached the 30-homer plateau for the third time (also ) he is the fi rst White Sox ever to hit 30-plus homers in three of his fi rst four major-league seasons. The only other White Sox to hit 30-plus homer runs in three of their fi rst four years with the club are Jermaine Dye ( , 08) and Jim Thome ( ). José Abreu on Saturday night vs. S.F. became just the sixth player in Sox history to hit for the cycle, and the fi rst since José Valentin on 4/27/00 vs. Baltimore according to Elias, he is the fi rst Cuban-born player in major-league history to record a cycle. Abreu joined San Diego's Wil Myers, Washington's Trea Turner, Texas' Carlos Gomez, Colorado's Nolan Arenado, the Dodgers' Cody Bellinger and Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria as players to hit for the cycle in The seven cycles this season are the second-most in MLB history (eight in 2009 and 1933). LONGBALL LOGISTICS Chicago has hit 169 home runs and is on pace to fi nish with 190, which would mark its highest total since 2012 (211) Matt Davidson (24) ranks fourth among Sox rookies, trailing José Abreu (36, '14), Ron Kittle (35, '83) and Zeke Bonura (27, '34). Davidson, Tim Anderson (16), Avisaíl García (16), Yolmer Sánchez (11) and Leury García (nine) all have set career highs in home runs this season. NO SHORTAGE OF PUNCHOUTS White Sox relievers rank ninth in the American League with 462 strikeouts, and are on pace for a club-record 520. The 462 strikeouts in 2017 are the second-most by a Sox bullpen, trailing the relievers in 2011 (479). Juan Minaya leads current Sox relievers with 44 strikeouts. NO REST FOR THE WEARY The White Sox are currently in a stretch where they fi nish the regular season playing 33 games in 34 days from 8/29-10/1. The Sox only remaining off day is on 9/18 in Houston.
