The Sox are 0-4 on the trip, dropping an 11-0 decision last night at Pittsburgh after suffering a three-game sweep at Tampa Bay last weekend. Following tonight s game, the White Sox return home for two vs. the Pirates (6/17-18) and three vs. Texas (6/19-21). Chicago went 4-2 on its last homestand vs. Detroit (1-2) and Houston (3-0) and 5-6 on its last trip to Toronto (1-2), Baltimore (1-1), Houston (2-1) and Texas (1-2). TONIGHT S STORYLINES The White Sox are looking to avoid their third winless trip of the season (0-3 at Kansas City from 4/6-9 and 0-5 to Baltimore and Minnesota from 4/30-5/3). The Sox are a season-high tying six games under.500 (second time, 8-14 on 5/3). LHP Jose Quintana is 1-1 with a 2.21 ERA (5 ER/20.1 IP) over his last three starts and owns a 1.33 ERA (3 ER/20.1 IP) with 22 strikeouts over his last three road outings. Chicago is 9-4 in its last 13 interleague games and 8-2 in its last 10 vs. Pittsburgh. Adam LaRoche, who played in 375 games with the Pirates from , is a.344 (44-128) hitter with nine home runs and 31 RBI in 41 career games against his former team. LAST NIGHT S RECAP Francisco Liriano struck out 12 batters over 8.0 scoreless IP as Pittsburgh posted an 11-0 victory over the White Sox Liriano, who pitched for the Sox in 2012, allowed just two singles and just one runner to reach second base. Rookie LHP Carlos Rodon suffered his first major-league loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 3.2 IP RHP Hector Noesi gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3.0 IP. The Sox were shut out for the fi fth time this season, collected a season-low two hits and grounded into three double plays as they suffered their second-largest defeat of the season. INTERLEAGUE SENSATION LHP Jose Quintana is 4-4 with a 2.29 ERA (20 ER/78.2 IP) in 12 career interleague starts his 2.29 ERA is the lowest among active pitchers who have made at least 12 interleague starts. Quintana has gone 3-2 with a 2.04 ERA (12 ER/53.0 IP) in eight road starts vs. National League teams he threw 8.0 scoreless IP in back-to-back starts on 6/17/12 at Los Angeles-NL and 6/24/12 vs. Milwaukee, and has allowed one run fi ve times. FRUSTRATING FIRST The White Sox have been outscored, 53-19, in the fi rst inning this season the 53 runs allowed are the most in baseball, and the 19 runs scored are the least. GRAB SOME BENCH Chris Sale has joined Hall-of-Famers Pedro Martinez (three times) and Randy Johnson (once) as the only pitchers since 1914 to strike out 12 or more batters in at least four straight starts (Elias) Sale fanned 12 on 5/28-1 at Baltimore, 13 on 6/3 at Texas, 14 on 6/8 vs. Houston and 12 on Sunday at Tampa Bay. Martinez (9/4-27/99 with Boston) and Johnson (6/19-7/11/98 with Seattle) share the major-league record of five straight games with 12-plus strikeouts. Is the fi rst major-league pitcher since David Price (6/4-25/14 with Tampa Bay) to strike out 10 or more batters in fi ve straight starts Randy Johnson (7/31-8/25/02) is the last pitcher to fan 10 or more batters over six straight starts. His 51 strikeouts over his last four starts are a franchise record and the most in the major leagues since Randy Johnson fanned 54 from 8/15-31/04 with Arizona Sale is the only active major-leaguer to strike out 50 or more batters over a four-start stretch. Prior to 2013, Juan Pizarro (40 in 1961) and Javier Vazquez (42 in 2007) were the only White Sox pitchers to strike out 40-plus batters over a four-start span Sale accomplished the feat once each in 2013 and 2014 and four times this season (5/12-28, 5/18-6/3, 5/23-6/8 and 5/28-6/14). Became the fi rst pitcher since 1900 to record 10-plus strikeouts in four straight starts while increasing his total in each outing (5/23-6/8). Has fanned 10-plus batters a franchise-record 24 times in 97 career starts, including six of his last seven his 14 career games with 12 or more strikeouts also are a franchise record and the most in the major leagues since 2012 (STATS LLC). His average of strikeouts in 2015 would break his own franchise record and is on pace to record a club-record 274 strikeouts. WHITE SOX VS. PITTSBURGH Chicago leads the all-time series, 17-10, and has won eight of the last 10 games dating back to 6/17/08. The White Sox are batting.287 ( ) with a 3.44 ERA (91 ER/238.0 IP) and have outscored the Pirates, The Sox are 9-3 at home against the Pirates and 8-7 on the road (6-4 at PNC Park). ROAD WOES Chicago has lost fi ve straight road games and is (.364) away from home since 2013, the second-lowest winning percentage in the majors behind Colorado (65-129,.335). The White Sox have not fi nished with a winning road record since going in both 2010 and CWS AT THE CWS RHP Carson Fulmer, Chicago s fi rst-round draft choice (No. 8 overall), and OF Ro Coleman, a product of the Sox ACE Program, are representing Vanderbilt at the College World Series. Fulmer threw 6.0 IP on Sunday vs. Cal-State Fullerton, allowing three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts, before the game was suspended by rain the Commodores rallied on Monday to record a 4-3 victory over the Titans and are scheduled to play TCU tonight in the winners bracket (7:00 CT). Fulmer was named SEC Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-America by Baseball America after going 13-2 with a 1.82 ERA (23 ER/114.0 IP) and 152 strikeouts over 17 starts. Coleman, a sophomore from Simeon Career Academy, is hitting.303 (69-228) with 50 runs scored over 62 games in COME SALE AWAY LHP Chris Sale and Hall-of-Famer Sandy Koufax are the only major-league pitchers since 1900 to record three straight starts of 12-plus strikeouts with one or no runs allowed (Elias). Sale struck out 12 batters over 8.0 scoreless IP on 5/28-1 at Baltimore, 13 over 7.0 scoreless IP on 6/3 at Texas and 14 with one run allowed over 8.0 IP on 6/8 vs. Houston. Koufax accomplished the feat over his fi nal three starts of the 1965 season, striking out 12 over 9.0 scoreless IP on 9/25 vs. St. Louis, 13 over 9.0 scoreless IP on 9/29 vs. Cincinnati and 13 with one run allowed over 9.0 IP on 10/2 vs. Milwaukee.
