The White Sox opened the homestand by taking two of three games vs. Cleveland, including a 6-0 victory yesterday. Following this four-game series, the Sox will take a sevengame trip to Baltimore (4/27-29) and Minnesota (4/30-5/3) the Orioles series will mark Chicago s fi rst games of the season outside the division. The White Sox went 2-3 on their last trip to Cleveland (1-1) and Detroit (1-2) from 4/14-19 and 2-1 on their fi rst homestand vs. Minnesota from 4/ TONIGHT S STORYLINES LHP Chris Sale is looking to start 3-0 for the second straight season (5-0 in 2014) Sale is 4-1 with a 1.88 ERA (9 ER/43.0 IP) in his last six home starts against the Royals. The White Sox are 3-14 against the Royals since 5/21/14 and 3-15 at U.S. Cellular Field since 4/4/13. The Sox are hitting.313 (55-176) with 25 runs scored over the last fi ve games. Jose Abreu has homered in back-to-back games for the fi fth time in his career. The White Sox bullpen owns a 1.61 ERA (5 ER/28.0 IP) in 10 games since 4/11, second-best in the major leagues. Emilio Bonifacio is celebrating his 30th birthday. YESTERDAY S RECAP Jeff Samardzija combined with three relievers on an eight-hitter as the White Sox recorded a 6-0 shutout victory over Cleveland in the deciding game of the series. Samardzija scattered six hits over 6.0 IP for his fi rst win with the Sox Dan Jennings, Zach Duke and Jake Petricka (season debut) combined for 3.0 scoreless IP in relief. Jose Abreu paced a 14-hit attack, going 2-4 with a home run (No. 5) and three RBI Adam Eaton, Melky Cabrera, Adam LaRoche, Alexei Ramirez and Micah Johnson also collected two hits apiece. Cleveland starter Corey Kluber, the reigning Cy Young Award winner, allowed a career-high 13 hits. The Indians went 0-10 with RISP. CY YOUNG SHOTS Since the start of the 2014 season, Jose Abreu has hit seven home runs off fi ve different former Cy Young Award winners, the highest total in the major leagues (Elias). Abreu has homered twice each off R.A. Dickey (2012) and Justin Verlander (2011) and once each off Clayton Kershaw (2011, 12-14), Corey Kluber (2014) and David Price (2012). Abreu s solo home run yesterday off Kluber marked his fi fth Cy Young victim, which ties him with Milwaukee s Carlos Gomez for the major-league lead since Note: Abreu also homered off Kluber on 5/4/14, prior to Kluber winning the award. FIRST-INNING FIREWORKS Jose Abreu has hit 14 fi rst-inning home runs since 2014, tied with Miami s Giancarlo Stanton for the second-highest total in the major leagues behind Baltimore s Adam Jones (15). Abreu has homered in the first inning in each of the White Sox last two games, hitting solo shots off Cleveland s Carlos Carrasco on Tuesday and Corey Kluber yesterday. BULLPEN RELIEF The White Sox bullpen has posted a 1.61 ERA (5 ER/28.0 IP) in 10 games since 4/11, second-best in the major league behind Kansas City (0.76). During that stretch, Sox relievers have allowed 16 hits (no home runs) and struck out 33 batters. HIGH RISP, HIGH REWARD The White Sox rank third in the major leagues with a.327 (33-101) average with runners in scoring position, including a.353 (18-51) mark over the last fi ve games. QUALITY IS JOB ONE The White Sox have made 1,065 quality starts since the start of the 2003 season, the second-highest total in the major leagues behind the New York Mets (1,073). The Sox are tied for sixth in the American League with six quality starts in 2015, including six in their last nine games. WHITE SOX VS. KANSAS CITY The Royals lead the season series, 3-0, after recording a season-opening, three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium. Chicago is hitting.207 (19-92) with a 7.88 ERA (21 ER/24.0 IP) and has been outscored, 21-7, this season. The Royals have won four straight season matchups against the White Sox for the fi rst time ever, going in that span. The Sox lead the all-time series, they are at home ( at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road ( at Kauffman Stadium). CENTRAL-LY LOCATED Chicago plays its fi rst 18 games and 25 of the fi rst 28 vs. American League Central teams (6-8 thus far). The White Sox went vs. the AL Central in 2014 and have fi nished under.500 within the division in fi ve of the last six seasons, with the exception of a mark in GRAB SOME BENCH RHP David Robertson is averaging 18.0 strikeouts per 9.0 IP (10 SO/5.0 IP), tied with Cleveland s Cody Allen and Oakland s R.J. Alvarez for the second-highest mark in the major leagues. Robertson s career average of strikeouts per 9.0 IP ranks third in major-league history among pitchers with at least IP, trailing Carlos Marmol (12.33) and Rob Dibble (12.17). He has struck out 10 of his 17 batters faced this season. MINIMAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED LHP Carlos Rodon made his major-league debut on Tuesday, joining Kansas City s Brandon Finnegan as the only members of the 2014 draft class to play in the major leagues. WHITE SOX The White Sox will wear No. 9 patches on their uniforms throughout the season to honor franchise legend Minnie Minoso, who passed away on 3/1/15 at the age of 90. Minoso hit.298 with 186 home runs, 1,023 RBI and 1,136 runs scored over a 17-year career spanning fi ve decades. CELEBRATING A CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON The White Sox will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2005 World Series championship team throughout the 2015 season, highlighted by a reunion on 7/ The Sox went in 2005 and 11-1 during the postseason to capture their fi rst world championship since AWARDS SHOW Jose Abreu and Alexei Ramirez will be recognized for their 2014 accolades in a ceremony prior to Saturday s game vs. Kansas City (1:10 p.m CT).
