During their current 13-2 run, the Sox have gone from four games under.500 (17-21) and 4.5 games out of fi rst place to a seven games over.500 and 1.5-game lead in the AL Central. Following today s game and a day off tomorrow, the Sox continue the homestand with three games each vs. Toronto (6/5-7) and Houston (6/8-10). The Sox were 3-0 on their last trip to Tampa Bay from 5/28-30 and 5-1 on their last homestand vs. Minnesota (2-1) and Cleveland (3-0) from 5/ TODAY S STORYLINES Chicago s record is its best after 53 games since 2008 (30-23) and 6.0 games better than at the same point in The White Sox are looking to win their fifth consecutive series, a feat they last accomplished from 6/8-27/10 (six in a row). Chris Sale is 3-0 with a 0.92 ERA (2 ER/19.2 IP) and 28 strikeouts in his last three starts Sale struck out 15 batters in his last start on 5/28 at Tampa Bay, tied for the second-highest total in franchise history (see note below). The Sox have won six of their last seven home games, outscoring the opposition, 67-38, after losing 13 of their previous 18. Chicago won seven of its last eight games vs. Seattle and 20 of 24 since the start of the 2010 season. Gordon Beckham is hitting.429 (12-28) with three home runs and seven RBI in his last six games. YESTERDAY S RECAP The White Sox were unable to hold a 7-5 lead in the eighth inning, and their nine-game winning streak and six-game streak at home ended with a 10-8 loss in 12 innings to Seattle. The Mariners scored a pair of runs off Addison Reed in the 12th to end their seven-game slide against the Sox. The game featured six lead changes, eight home runs and 16 pitchers the Sox used nine pitchers, their most in a game since 9/14/97 vs. Cleveland (Elias). Gordon Beckham was 3-5 with a home run (No. 8) and careerhigh tying four RBI, and Alejandro De Aza went 3-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base A.J. Pierzynski (No. 9), Alex Rios (No. 5) and Dayan Viciedo (No. 12) all homered for the Sox. DRAFT DATA The White Sox hold the 13th and 48th overall picks in the 2012 First-Year Draft, which begins tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. CT from MLB Network s Studio 42 in Secaucus, N.J. The Sox were awarded the supplemental 48th pick as compensation for the loss of Type B free agent Mark Buehrle. Chicago will be represented by former catcher Ron Karkovice, who played his entire 12-year career with the White Sox, and Kevin Coe, the Sox manager of youth baseball initiatives. SALE S STRIKEOUT SHOW Chris Sale struck out a career-high 15 batters on 5/28 at Tampa Bay, the most by a White Sox pitcher since Jack Harshman set the franchise record with 16 on 7/25/54 at Boston. Below are additional details about Sale s performance: The last pitcher with 15 or more strikeouts within his fi rst 10 career starts was Kerry Wood, who struck out a major-league record tying 20 in his fi fth career start on 5/6/98 vs. Houston. Sale is the youngest pitcher (23 years, 59 days) to record 15 or more strikeouts since Mark Prior recorded 16 on 6/26/03 vs. Milwaukee. He is the youngest American League pitcher to strike out at least 15 since Greg Swindell on 5/10/87 vs. Kansas City (also 15). According to Elias, Sale and Tampa Bay s Matt Moore (10) were the first opposing pitchers, 23 years old or younger, to combine for 25 strikeouts since the Cubs Tom Hughes (15) and Cincinnati s Noodles Hahn (11) on 7/31/1901. VIEW FROM THE TOP The White Sox have been in first place for 11 days this season, including every day since 5/29 by comparison, the Sox led the division for four days in 2011 (last on 4/7), 33 days in 2010 and 13 days in WHITE SOX VS. SEATTLE The White Sox seven-game winning streak vs. Seattle ended yesterday but they lead the season series, 4-1. The Sox are 20-4 against the Mariners since the start of the 2010 season and since Chicago is batting.267 (48-180) with a 3.75 ERA (20 ER/48.0 IP) in 2012 and has outscored the Mariners, Chicago leads the all time series, the Sox are at home (69-43 at U.S. Cellular Field) and in Seattle (26-30 at Safeco Field). OFFENSE IS OFFENSIVE The White Sox are hitting.294 ( ) with 36 homers and 121 runs scored over their last 18 games (6.7 R/G) since 5/14, including 14 games of 10 hits or more. During that span, the Sox lead the major leagues in average, home runs, runs scored, runs per game, slugging percentage (.513) and average with RISP (.344) and rank second in onbase percentage (.359). JUNE BOON The White Sox entered June with a 1.5-game lead in the American League Central division. Since 1995, 72 of the 102 teams (70.6 percent) who have held at least a share of the division lead entering June have reached the playoffs the Sox have led the AL Central four times entering June (2000, and 08), making the playoffs three times. ON THE HOMESTAND The White Sox are 1-1 on the nine-game homestand vs. Seattle (1-1), Toronto (6/4-6) and Houston (6/7-9) they are hitting.247 (19-77) with a 5.57 ERA (13 ER/21.0 IP) and a edge in runs scored. The Sox posted a 7-4 victory on Friday as Gordon Beckham recorded his fi rst career multihomer game. BY THE NUMBERS The White Sox have outscored their opponents by 38 runs in 2012 ( ), the third-largest differential in the major leagues behind Texas (+75) and St. Louis (+49).
