The Sox are 0-7 on the trip, dropping a 3-1 decision last night after suffering a pair of three-game sweeps at Boston (8/30-9/1) and New York-AL (9/2-4). Following this four-game series, the White Sox return to Chicago for a 10-game homestand vs. Detroit (9/9-11), Cleveland (9/12-15) and Minnesota (9/16-18). Chicago went 4-2 on its last homestand vs. Texas (2-1) and Houston (2-1) and 6-1 on its last trip to Minnesota (3-1) and Kansas City (3-0) from 8/ TONIGHT S STORYLINES The White Sox have lost seven straight games after winning 10 of their previous 12. Chicago has lost 15 of its last 24 games at Camden Yards. John Danks is 1-0 with a 2.66 ERA (6 ER/20.1 IP) in his last three starts at Camden Yards. Avisail Garcia is hitting.361 (30-83) in his last 22 games. LAST NIGHT S RECAP Baltimore hit three solo home runs in a 3-1 victory, extending the White Sox losing streak to seven games. Starter Jose Quintana took the loss, allowing all three runs on seven hits over 7.0 IP Addison Reed struck out the side in the eighth inning. Dayan Viciedo collected two of Chicago s fi ve hits the Sox loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning but settled for one run. ROSTER MOVE Prior to tonight s game, the White Sox reinstated RHP Ramon Troncoso from the 15-day disabled list Troncoso, 30, has been on the disabled list since 8/17 with Pericarditis (infl ammation of the tissue around the heart). With the move, the Sox active roster increases to 31. The White Sox also have outrighted RHP Jhan Marinez to Class AAA Charlotte. BARONS TAKE OPENER Chris Bassitt combined with Ryan Kussmaul and Cody Winiarski on a four-hitter as Class AA Birmingam defeated Tennessee (Cubs) in Game 1 of their Southern League playoff series. Bassitt allowed one run on three hits with no walks and nine strikeouts over 7.0 IP Kussmaul pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Winiarski struck out two in a ninth. CF Trayce Thompson went 2-4 with a home run and two RBI, and Micah Johnson was 1-3 with a walk and stolen base. RHP Chris Beck (2-2, 2.89) starts Game Two of the best-of-five series in Birmingham. ROAD WOES Chicago (.3287) on the road, the second-lowest winning percentage in the major leagues behind Miami (.3286). The Sox have lost seven straight road games after winning six of their previous seven they also have recorded a pair of nine-game road losing streaks this season (5/18-6/4 and 7/13-8/15), a fi ve-game streak (4/9-13) and four games (6/23-7/3). NEW KID ON THE BLOCK Avisail Garcia, who was acquired from Detroit on 7/30 as part of the three-team trade that sent RHP Jake Peavy to Boston, is hitting.333 (32-96) in 26 games with the White Sox. Garcia, 22, is hitting.361 (30-83) in 22 games since 8/13, the fourth-best average in the American League (see box at right). SETTING SALE Chris Sale ranks among the American League leaders in complete games (1st, 4), quality starts (T3rd, 21), strikeouts (4th, 199), opponents average (5th,.226) and ERA (6th, 2.97). A look at Sale s notable accomplishments in 2013: Is on pace to record 232 strikeouts, which would rank fifth in franchise history and be the most since Ed Walsh fanned 254 in Needs one strikeout to join Gary Peters (215 in 1967 and 205 in 1964) and Wilbur Wood (210 in 1971) as the only lefties in Sox history to fan 200 or more in a season. Has struck out 10 or more batters six times in 2013, tied with Juan Pizarro (1961) for the second-highest, single-season total in Sox history behind Ed Walsh (seven in 1910). Has fanned 12-plus batters six times in his career, tied with Pizarro and Ed Walsh for the club record. Lefties are hitting.139 (19-137), lowest among AL starters. WHITE SOX VS. BALTIMORE The season series is even at 2-2 with three games left. Chicago is hitting.235 (31-132) with a 2.57 ERA (10 ER/35.0 IP) both teams have scored 11 runs. The White Sox went 2-6 against Baltimore in 2012 to fall to in the last four season matchups. The Sox trail in the all-time series, they are at home (55-46 at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road (49-41 at Camden Yards). ON THE TRIP The White Sox are 0-7 on this 10-game trip to Boston (0-3), New York-AL (0-3) and Baltimore (0-1) five of the seven losses have come by two runs or less, including three by one run. ABOUT THE ROSTER The White Sox have 31 players on the active roster: 16 pitchers, three catchers, eight infi elders and four outfi elders. The Sox purchased the contracts of C Miguel Gonzalez, RHP Erik Johnson, INF Marcus Semien and RHP Daniel Webb from Class AAA Charlotte on 9/3 they recalled LHP Charlie Leesman and purchased the contract of C Bryan Anderson on 9/1. Twenty-seven players were in spring camp with the Sox. WELCOME TO THE SHOW RHP Erik Johnson and 3B Marcus Semien made their majorleague debuts in the starting lineup on Wednesday at New York-AL, while RHP Daniel Webb also made his debut. Accoring to Elias, it marked the fi rst time that two White Sox played made their major-league debuts in the same starting lineup since 8/2/90 when 1B Frank Thomas (0-4, RBI) and Alex Fernandez (2 ER/7.0 IP) debuted in a 4-3 victory at Milwaukee. It also marked the first time since 9/7/99 that three Sox players made their major-league debut in the same game: C Josh Paul, RHP Aaron Myette and SS Jason Dellaero at Anaheim (Elias). QUALITY AND QUANTITY The White Sox have made 960 quality starts since 2003, the most in the majors the Angels are second with 954. The Sox rank fi fth in the American League with 80 quality starts in LET S PLAY SPOILER The White Sox play 23 of 26 games from 8/20-9/15 vs. teams above.500, including three-game series vs. each first-place team in the American League (Texas, Boston and Detroit). NO SHORTAGE OF DRAMA 107 of Chicago s 139 games (77.0 percent) in 2013 have been decided by three runs or less. The White Sox have played 51 one-run, most in the major leagues, and 21 extra-inning games, tied for the most. SAVE IT FOR LATER Addison Reed is tied for fi fth in the American League with 36 saves, the seventh-highest total in White Sox history and the most in franchise history by a player under the age of 25. His 36 saves are the most by a Sox pitcher since Bobby Jenks recorded 40 in CLEAN IT UP The White Sox rank 14th in the American League with a.981 fielding percentage in 2013, a year after leading the major leagues with a franchise-record.9883 mark. The Sox are on pace to make 115 errors (70 in 2012).
