RHP Hector Noesi, who has worked 6.0 IP in each of his last two starts, takes the mound for the White Sox. Chicago is in fourth place in the American League Central, 6.0 games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers. Following this four-game series vs. the Yankees (5/22-25), the Sox will continue the homestand vs. Cleveland (5/26-28) and San Diego (5/30-6/1) the team has an off day on 5/29. TONIGHT S STORYLINES The White Sox are trying to get to the.500 mark for the fi rst time since 5/10 (19-19). The Sox have won seven consecutive home games vs. the Yankees, the longest streak since 5/7/89-6/29/90 (also seven). Chicago is 13-8 vs. teams at or above.500 this season, compared to an mark vs. teams with a losing record. Sox starters own a 2.33 ERA (5 ER/19.1 IP) with 22 strikeouts and.197 opponents average (14-71) in the last three games. Conor Gillaspie has hit safely in 15 of his last 17 games, batting.344 (22-64) with fi ve doubles and six RBI (fi ve multihit). LAST NIGHT S RECAP Chris Sale extended his season-opening winning streak to four games in the White Sox 3-2 victory over the Yankees. Sale surrendered one hit with 10 strikeouts in 6.0 scoreless IP, and was perfect through 5.2 IP it was his second straight outing with 10 strikeouts and one hit allowed (also 4/17 vs. Boston). Ronald Belisario earned his second save, strucking out Alfonso Soriano to end the game with the tying run on first Zach Putnam and Daniel Webb each worked a scoreless 1.0 IP in relief. Alejandro De Aza and Adam Eaton gave the Sox an early 2-0 lead with RBI singles in the second Adam Dunn added a RBI single in the eighth Chicago was 4-10 with RISP. TWO-MAN CLUB Chris Sale surrendered just one hit with 10 strikeouts over 6.0 scoreless IP last night vs. the Yankees, his fi rst outing since being reinstated from the disabled list. He also allowed just one hit with 10 strikeouts in his last start on 4/17 vs. Boston (ND; 1 ER/7.0 IP). Sale is the second pitcher in the modern era (since 1900) to allow one hit with 10-plus strikeouts in consecutive starts the Mets R.A. Dickey also accomplished the feat in 2012 (Elias). STRIKEOUT MACHINE Chris Sale (64 career starts) recorded his second double-digit strikeout game of the season last night and 12th career. He is tied with Alex Fernandez (197 starts with the White Sox) for the fourth-most, 10-plus strikeout games in team history. The top three White Sox pitchers for double-digit strikeout efforts are Ed Walsh (17; 312 starts), Juan Pizarro (15; 145 starts) and Javier Vazquez (13; 97 starts). CAPTAINS SAY FAREWELL White Sox captain Paul Konerko and Yankees captain Derek Jeter are both playing their fi nal seasons in Jeter (20 years; 1995-) and Konerko (16; 1999-) are the longest tenured active players with their current clubs Konerko also played two seasons with the Dodgers and Reds ( ). Konerko is a career.316 hitter ( ) with 23 home runs and 65 RBI vs. New York, while Jeter is batting.288 (81-281) with seven homers and 25 RBI lifetime at U.S. Cellular Field the Sox are vs. the Yankees when Konerko and Jeter play. The White Sox will honor Jeter prior to Sunday s game with a video and commemorative gifts to mark his final series in Chicago Konerko will present the gifts on behalf of the Sox. STREAKING THROUGH NEW YORK The White Sox have won seven consecutive home games vs. New York-AL after winning last night s series opener they also recorded sweeps in 2012 and The Sox home winning streak over the Yankees is the longest since also winning seven straight from 5/7/89-6/29/90. The two longest home winning streaks in team history are nine games (6/4/72-7/10/73) and eight games (6/2/18-5/23/19). WELCOME BACK, MATT LHP Matt Thornton is back at U.S. Cellular Field for the fi rst time since being traded by Chicago to Boston on 7/12/13. Thornton ranks among the White Sox all-time relief leaders in appearances (1st, 512), holds (1st, 164), strikeouts (2nd, 486), wins (T3rd, 31) and IP (5th, 463.1). COUNTDOWN TO COOPERSTOWN Frank Thomas will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y. joining Thomas in the Class of 2014 are pitchers Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux and managers Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa and Joe Torre. The Big Hurt, the White Sox all-time leader in most offensive categories, is one of four players in major-league history with a career.300 average, 500 home runs, 1,500 RBI and 1,000 runs scored and 1,500 walks, joining Mel Ott, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. WHITE SOX VS. NEW YORK YANKEES Chicago has won seven of the last 10 games overall but are since 2010, including a 8-6 mark at U.S. Cellular Field. Each of the last three series have been sweeps Chicago recorded home sweeps from 8/20-22/12 and 8/5-7/13 the Yankees won all three games in New York from 9/2-4/13. WHITE SOX EXTEND CONDOLENCES The White Sox extend sympathies to the family and friends of Loretta Grandma Micele, who passed away last night at the age of 93 Micele worked as a guest services staffer at Comiskey Park and U.S. Cellular Field from (67 seasons). WEATHERING THE STORM There have been 186 combined games missed by eight White Sox players (fi ve current) who made the Opening Day roster. A breakdown of players and games: Jose Abreu (5), Adam Eaton (14), Avisail Garcia (40), Nate Jones (46), Lindstrom (3), Felipe Paulino (32), Chris Sale (32) and Conor Gillaspie (14). INF Gordon Beckham (22 games) started 2014 on the DL. MISSING IN ACTION 1B Jose Abreu was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 5/18 with infl ammation in his left ankle he will be in a walking boot during his recovery no timetable is set for his return. Chicago is 3-2 since Abreu went on the disabled list. Abreu ranks among the MLB leaders in homers (1st, 15), AB/ HR ratio (1st, 11.53), RBI (T2nd, 42), extra-base hits (3rd, 27), total bases (6th, 103) and slugging percentage (5th,.595). Abreu is the reigning American League Player and Rookie of the Month, winning both honors in his fi rst month in the majors. DIGGING THE LONG BALL The White Sox rank second in the AL with 52 home runs. The Sox are 19-9 when hitting at least one homer and 12-3 when recording a multihomer game (5-16 when homerless). Chicago ranks among the MLB home run leaders in the following categories: with two outs (T1st, 19), RISP (2nd, 17), seventh inning or later (T2nd, 19) and RISP/two outs (T4th, 7). THE KIDS JUST WON T QUIT The White Sox have two wins when trailing after eight innings in 2014, matching their total from the entire 2013 season. Chicago leads the major leagues with 38 runs scored in the ninth inning Cleveland ranks second with 25. Alexei Ramirez ranks among the American League leaders in batting average with two strikes (5th,.302), two outs (6th,.358) and RISP/two outs (T9th,.400). Jose Abreu (1st, 6) and Marcus Semien (T9th, 3) rank among the AL leaders in home runs in the seventh inning or later. PROVIDING RELIEF Chicago relievers have allowed just fi ve earned runs over the last eight games (23.2 IP) six outings have been scoreless. The bullpen owns a 2.45 ERA (22 ER/80.2 IP) with six saves, 11 holds and a.175 average (50-285) since 4/26 (25 games), lowering its season ERA from 5.20 to 3.83 during that span. The 2.45 mark is the lowest in the American League and the fi fth-lowest in the majors since 4/26 (see box at right). MILESTONES WITHIN REACH Ronald Belisario: Five games for 300 career.
