LHP John Danks, who is limiting opponents to a.220 average (20-91) at home, takes the mound for the White Sox. Chicago is in third place in the American League Central, 6.0 games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers. Following this series vs. the Yankees, the Sox will continue the homestand vs. Cleveland (5/26-28) and San Diego (5/30-6/1). TONIGHT S STORYLINES The White Sox are trying to move above the.500 mark for the fi rst time since 5/9 (19-18) the Sox last three wins, and four of their last six games overall, have been one-run decisions. The Sox have won eight consecutive home games vs. the Yankees, tied for the second-longest streak in team history. Chicago is 14-8 vs. teams at or above.500 this season, compared to an mark vs. teams with a losing record. Sox starters own a 2.84 ERA (8 ER/25.1 IP) with 25 strikeouts and.198 opponents average (18-91) in the last four games. Alexei Ramirez is 9-23 (.391) with two home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored in the last seven games (three multihit). LAST NIGHT S RECAP Adam Dunn connected on a 431-foot, game-ending, two-run home run off David Robertson in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the White Sox to a 6-5, comeback win over New York. The Sox held a 4-2 lead after six innings before the Yankees scored two runs off Chicago relievers in the seventh inning. Starter Hector Noesi (3 ER/6.0 IP) received a no decision despite making his second quality start Daniel Webb earned his fourth win after working 1.1 scoreless IP. Alexei Ramirez went 3-4, including a two-run homer (No. 7), surpassing his 2013 total (6) Adam Eaton was 3-5 with a run scored, and Tyler Flowers collected two hits. WALKOFF RECAP Adam Dunn hit his 10th career game-ending homer last night on an 0-2 pitch off David Robertson the homer was the Sox third walkoff in 2014 and 49th all-time at U.S. Cellular Field. Dunn s 10 game-ending shots are tied with Jason Giambi and Albert Pujols for the second-most among active players. The last White Sox to hit a walkoff home run on an 0-2 pitch was A.J. Pierzynski on 9/8/06 vs. Cleveland (source: Elias). Chicago leads MLB with three game-ending homers this season the last time it had three or more was 2008 (fi ve). STREAKING THROUGH NEW YORK The White Sox have won eight consecutive home games vs. New York-AL, tied for the second-longest home winning streak in team history (also 6/2/18-5/23/19). CAPTAINS SAY FAREWELL White Sox captain Paul Konerko and Yankees captain Derek Jeter are both playing their fi nal seasons in Jeter (20 years; 1995-) and Konerko (16; 1999-) are the longest tenured active players with their current clubs. The Big Hurt, the White Sox all-time leader in most offensive categories, is one of four players in major-league history with a career.300 average, 500 home runs, 1,500 RBI and 1,000 runs scored and 1,500 walks, joining Mel Ott, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. WHITE SOX VS. NEW YORK YANKEES The White Sox are looking to clinch their third straight home series win they recorded home sweeps in 2012 and Chicago has won eight of the last 12 games overall but are since 2010, including a 9-6 mark at U.S. Cellular Field. The Sox are hitting.300 (21-70), own a 3.00 ERA (6 ER/18.0 IP) and have outscored the Yankees, 9-7. RAMIREZ ROLLS ON Alexei Ramirez ranks among the American League leaders in hits (3rd, 62), average with RISP (3rd,.396), multihit games (T3rd, 19), average (4th,.325) and singles (4th, 45). Ramirez has hit safely in 40 of Chicago s 50 games and has gone hitless in consecutive contests just twice has played in an AL leading innings (out of a possible IP). He is one of 10 AL players (also Jose Abreu and Marcus Semien) to have multiple four-rbi games this season. WEATHERING THE STORM There have been 191 combined games missed by eight White Sox players (fi ve current) who made the Opening Day roster. MISSING IN ACTION 1B Jose Abreu was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 5/18 with infl ammation in his left ankle he will be in a walking boot during his recovery no timetable is set for his return. Chicago is 4-2 since Abreu went on the disabled list. Abreu ranks among MLB leaders in AB/HR ratio (1st, 11.53), homers (T1st, 15), RBI (T3rd, 42), extra-base hits (T3rd, 27), slugging percentage (6th,.595) and total bases (T6th, 103).
