Quintana will be followed tomorrow by LHP Carlos Rodon and RHP Mat Latos in Thursday's fi nale. Following this four-game series, the White Sox open the home portion of their schedule with three games vs. Cleveland (4/8-10) before taking a six-game, seven-day trip to Minnesota (4/11-14) and Tampa Bay (4/15-17). The Sox have one off day in April (4/12) before beginning a stretch of 19 straight games without an off day from 4/13-5/1 they play 17 of their fi rst 27 games on the road and nine of their fi rst 42 outside the AL Central division. TONIGHT'S STORYLINES The White Sox are looking to start 2-0 for the third time in the last four seasons and 2-0 on the road for the first time since The Sox have won fi ve straight games at The Coliseum following a seven-game losing streak they are looking for their fi rst six-game winning streak in Oakland since 8/3/89-9/18/90. Jose Quintana, who makes his second career start at The Coliseum, is 11-7 with a 2.88 ERA (52 ER/162.1 IP) over his last 25 road starts dating back to 6/19/14. Adam Eaton has reached base safely in 23 consecutive games dating back to 9/9/15, hitting.376 (35-93) with a.453 on-base percentage and a.980 OPS. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP The White Sox scored all four of their runs in the third inning and held on for a 4-3 victory over Oakland. Chris Sale earned the victory, allowing three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts over 7.0 IP four relievers combined for 2.0 scoreless IP, with Zach Duke (0.1) and Nate Jones (0.2) posting holds and David Robertson (1.0) earning the save. Adam Eaton gave the Sox a 1-0 lead with a RBI triple, Jimmy Rollins followed with a RBI single and 1B Mark Canha's error allowed two more runs to score. Rollins, 3B Todd Frazier, 2B Brett Lawrie, C Dioner Navarro and CF Austin Jackson made their White Sox debuts. OPENING DAY LEFTOVERS The White Sox have won six of their last eight season openers to improve to overall. Chris Sale improved to 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA (6 ER/22.0 IP) and 23 strikeouts in three career Opening Day starts. SS Jimmy Rollins made his 16th consecutive Opening Day start, tied with Albert Pujols for the longest active streak in the major leagues Rollins (37 years, 126 days) became the Sox oldest Opening Day shortstop since Luke Appling (42 years, 17 days) in Adam Eaton became the first left-handed hitter to start in right fi eld for Chicago on Opening Day since Harold Baines in HOW THE WEST WAS WON The White Sox are (.636) vs. the American League West since 2015, the second-best winning percentage in the major leagues behind San Francisco (.650). Sox pitchers have recorded a 3.32 ERA (117 ER/317.1 IP) and have made 27 quality starts in 34 games. Chicago s three-game sweep on 5/15-17 at Oakland was its fi rst at The Coliseum since 5/16-18/97. SPRING RECAP The White Sox went in spring training, concluding with a pair of wins at San Diego from 4/1-2. The Sox fi nished with a winning record in spring training for the fi rst time since 2004 ( ), and the 17 wins were their most since 2003 (also 17). Chicago led the major leagues with 51 home runs, its most during spring training since at least ROSTER QUICK FACTS The White Sox 25-man roster includes 12 pitchers (six lefties), two catchers, six infi elders and fi ve outfi elders the average age is 28.8 (28.9 for position players and 28.6 for pitchers) the rotation averages 27.0, compared to 29.7 for the bullpen. SS Jimmy Rollins (37) is the oldest player, LHP Carlos Rodon (23) is the youngest, and LHP John Danks (2007-) is the longest tenured, followed by LHP Chris Sale (2010-). The White Sox began the season with no players on the disabled list (four in 2015) and no rookies (two in 2015) Rollins made the club as a non-roster invitee to spring training. WHITE SOX VS. OAKLAND The White Sox posted a 4-3 victory last night to improve to 2-2 all-time vs. Oakland on Opening Day. The Sox have won 12 of their last 17 games overall against the A's, including fi ve in a row at The Coliseum after losing the previous seven. Chicago went 5-2 against Oakland last season (3-0 at The Coliseum) and won back-to-back season series ( ) against the A s for the fi rst time since The White Sox trail the all-time series, they are at home (88-82 at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road. FAMILIAR FACES This series marks the return of shortstop Jimmy Rollins and coaches Todd Steverson and Greg Sparks to the Bay Area. Rollins graduated in 1996 from Encinal High School in Alameda and was selected by Philadelphia in the second round of the 1996 draft. Steverson worked nine seasons in the Oakland organization, including two as the A s fi rst base coach and two as the minorleague hitting coordinator. Sparks spent 19 seasons ( ) in the Athletics organization, including nine as the minor-league hitting coordinator. A BUSY OFFSEASON The White Sox Opening Day roster featured eight players who were acquired in the offseason, compared to 12 in C Alex Avila (11/25), C Dioner Navarro (12/4), RHP Mat Latos (2/9), SS Jimmy Rollins (2/22) and OF Austin Jackson (3/7) were signed as free agents. INF Brett Lawrie (12/9 from Oakland) and INF Todd Frazier (12/16 from Cincinnati) were acquired via trade INF/OF Jerry Sands (12/23 from Cleveland) was claimed off waivers. QUALITY IS JOB ONE The White Sox have made 1,158 quality starts since the start of the 2003 season, the second-highest total in the major leagues behind the Mets (1,163). The Sox led the American League with 98 quality starts in 2015, their highest total since 2003 (also 98) Jose Quintana (2nd, 25) and Chris Sale (5th, 23) ranked second and fi fth in the AL in ABREU IN ELITE COMPANY Jose Abreu ( ) and Albert Pujols ( ) are the only players in major-league history to record 30-plus home runs and 100-plus RBI in each of his fi rst two seasons. Abreu batted.290 with 30 homers and 101 RBI last season after hitting.317 with 36 and 107 as a rookie in Pujols accomplished the feat in each of his fi rst 10 seasons before the streak ended in HONORING EDDIE The White Sox mourn the loss of sports broadcasting legend and long-time Sox executive Eddie Einhorn, who passed away on 2/23/16 from complications involving a stroke. Einhorn, who was 80 years old, served as vice chairman of the White Sox for 25 years and was the team s president and chief operating offi cer from he also was a member of the Chicago Bulls board of directors. The Sox will honor Einhorn by wearing an Eddie patch on their uniform sleeve during the 2016 regular season.
