Chicago has surpassed its win total from last season (76-86), but will finish with a record below.500 for the fourth straight year. Since owning the second-best record in Major League Baseball at on 5/9, the White Sox have gone TONIGHT'S STORYLINES Chicago has won 12 of its last 17 and 21 of 31 games at home ( edge in runs scored in the last 31). The White Sox are 7-2 over their last nine games against Minnesota at U.S. Cellular Field. Chicago's 12 wins vs. the Twins this season are its most since going 14-4 in Sox pitchers own a 2.00 ERA (14 ER/63.0 IP) and.220 opponents average over the last seven games starters are 6-1 with a 1.71 ERA (9 ER/47.1 IP) with seven QS during that span. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Carlos Rodon surendered just three hits, and Chicago scored in three of the fi rst four innings in its 7-3 win over Minnesota. The White Sox improved to in September, clinching their second winning month of the season (17-8 in April). The Sox took an early 7-0 lead, scoring two runs in the fi rst, three in the third and two in the fourth. Rodon improved to 9-10 in his fi nal start, allowing three runs with 10 strikeouts in 6.0 IP he struck out the fi rst seven Twins of the game, tying an American League record (see below). Tim Anderson hit his ninth homer and fell a double shy of the cycle, Omar Narvaez hit his fi rst career homer in the fourth and Melky Cabrera went 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI. CARLOS IN THE (K) ZONE Carlos Rodon opened last night's game with seven straight strikeouts, matching Joe Cowley's club and American League record for consecutive game-opening strikeouts he also tied Cowley's Sox record for most consecutive punchouts in a game. Houston's Jim Deshaies (9/23/86 vs. the Dodgers) and the Mets' Jacob degrom (9/15/14 vs. Miami) own the MLB record (since 1900) of eight strikeouts to start a game (Elias). Including his previous start on 9/25 at Cleveland, Rodon struck out 10 consecutive hitters, the longest streak in MLB since the Dodgers' Eric Gagne struck out 10 straight in May 2003 (STATS). 30 AND COUNTING James Shields tonight is making his 33rd start of the season, marking his 10th consecutive campaign of 30-plus starts. He is the only pitcher to make 30-plus starts every year since 2007 Seattle's Felix Hernandez, who is scheduled to start Sunday, is one start shy of recording 30 for the 10th straight year. The only other White Sox right-handers to make 30-plus starts in a season since 2008 are Jeff Samardzija (2015), Jake Peavy (2012), Gavin Floyd ( ) and Javier Vazquez (2008). OUT GOES FRAZIER Todd Frazier hit his career-high 40th homer Wednesday night, extending his franchise record for a third baseman he joined Jim Thome (42 homers in 2006) as the only players to hit 40-plus home runs in their fi rst season with the White Sox. He needs two RBI to become just the sixth White Sox to record a 40 HR/100 RBI season, joining Frank Thomas (1993, '95-96, 2000, '03), Paul Konerko ( ), Albert Belle (1998), Jermaine Dye (2006) and Jim Thome (2006). Frazier is trying to become the fi rst White Sox since Jorge Orta in 1976 to lead the club in home runs and stolen bases. CY FOR SALE? WHITE SOX VS. MINNESOTA The White Sox lead the season series, 12-5, going 6-1 at U.S. Cellular Field and 6-4 at Target Field they have clinched just their third season-series win over the last 16 seasons. The Sox have won six of the last 11 games in the season series after recording a six-game winning streak to start Chicago is hitting.291/.343/.450 with 19 homers, owns a 3.51 ERA (61 ER/156.1 IP) and has outscored the Twins, The White Sox trail the all-time series, they are at home ( at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road (33-34 at Target Field). Abreu has reached base safely in 48 of his last 55 games since 8/2 (was hitting.269), hitting safely in 42 contests (24 multihit).
