Following tonight s game at Progressive Field, the White Sox will conclude the 2013 season with a four-game set vs. Kansas City from 9/26-29 at U.S. Cellular Field. Chicago will fi nish the season with 95 or more losses for the eighth time in franchise history the club is on pace to fi nish in last place for the fi rst time since 1989 (69-92). TONIGHT S STORYLINES Chicago is trying to snap its franchise-record, 13-game losing streak vs. Cleveland (see note below). The White Sox are hitting.269 (79-294) with 10 homers and 43 runs scored (5.4 R/G) over the last eight games. Avisail Garcia is batting.333 (43-129) since 8/13, the sixth-best average in the American League during that span. White Sox starters own a 2.25 ERA (7 ER/28.0 IP) and a.233 opponents average (24-103) over the last four games. The Sox 95 losses are their most since going in LAST NIGHT S RECAP Jason Giambi hit a game-ending, pinch-hit, two-run homer off Addison Reed in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a 5-4 win. The loss extended the White Sox losing streak vs. the Indians to a franchise record 13, the longest vs. a single opponent. Chicago overcame a 3-2 defi cit in the ninth inning with solo home runs from Dayan Viciedo and Alejandro De Aza off Indians closer Chris Perez. Hector Santiago received a no decision after allowing three runs on six hits over 6.1 IP Reed s blown save was his third over his last six opportunities Paul Konerko left the game after fouling a ball off his right knee in the eighth inning. DE AZA GOES DEEP Alejandro De Aza extended his career high with his 17th home run of the season last night... the 17 homers tied him with Ray Durham (2000) for the second most by a White Sox No. 1 hitter in a season... Durham s 19 in 1998 ranks fi rst. END OF THE LINE INF Jeff Keppinger (right shoulder surgery) and LHP David Purcey (left ulnar collateral ligament strain) have been shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season. Keppinger, who is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday, hit.253 ( ) with four homers and 40 RBI in 117 games. Purcey is not scheduled for surgery and is expected to heal with rest he was 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA (6 ER/25.1 IP) and 23 strikeouts over 24 relief appearances this season. STREAK STOPPERS? The White Sox have lost 13 consecutive games vs. Cleveland, the longest streak in franchise history vs. a single opponent. Prior to last night, the only other time the Sox lost 12 consecutive games vs. one team was from 8/5/21-5/15/22 vs. Boston. The losing streak is the longest in the major leagues since Pittsburgh lost 13 in a row vs. Milwaukee from 7/22/10-8/22/11. YOUTH MOVEMENT Avisail Garcia is hitting.366 (26-71) with a triple, three homers, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored over his last 18 games. Erik Johnson owns a 2.82 ERA (7 ER/22.1 IP) with 14 strikeouts over his fi rst four career starts (three quality starts). Marcus Semien is (.333) with three doubles, a homer, fi ve RBI and six runs scored over his last 12 games. ROAD WOES The White Sox conclude their road schedule with tonight s game at Cleveland they are away from home The 54 road losses are tied for the most in franchise history the 1969 White Sox went on the road. Chicago has experienced losing streaks of fi ve games, nine games (twice) and 10 games on the road this season. The Sox were in 2012 and in 2011 on the road. SALE-ING TO THE TOP Chris Sale has 221 strikeouts this season, the most strikeouts in a season by a White Sox left-hander in team history. Sale s 221 strikeouts in 2013 rank fi fth in franchise history Ed Walsh ranks fi rst-fourth in team history (269 in 1908; 258 in 1910; 255 in 1911; 254 in 1912). The left-hander ranks third in the American League in strikeouts this season and fourth in the majors leagues. WHITE SOX VS. CLEVELAND The White Sox are 2-16 vs. Cleveland this season they are 1-9 at U.S. Cellular Field and 1-7 at Progressive Field. The Sox 13-game losing streak vs. the Indians is the longest in franchise history the 16 losses this season are tied for the most in franchise history (6-16 in 1940 and 1948). The Sox are hitting.243 ( ) with 12 homers, a 6.06 ERA (106 ER/157.1 IP) and have been outscored, Paul Konerko leads active players with 48 homers vs. CLE. CENTRAL DIVISION DYNAMICS The White Sox are vs. the American League Central this season, including a mark at home their 46 losses vs. the Central are the most in team history in a season. QUALITY AND QUANTITY The White Sox have made 969 quality starts since 2003, the most in the majors the Angels are second with 965. CLEAN IT UP The White Sox are tied for last in the major leagues with a.980 fielding percentage (118 errors) in 2013 they led the major leagues with a franchise-record.9883 mark (70 errors). DONE DEAL FOR DANKS LHP John Danks has been shut down for the rest of Danks, 28, is 4-14 with a 4.75 ERA (73 ER/138.1 IP) over 22 starts this season his 14 losses are a career high. Danks began the 2013 season on the disabled list following left shoulder surgery in 2012 (made season debut on 5/24). MILESTONES WITHIN REACH Adam Dunn: Four home runs to tie Dave Kingman for 38th place alltime (442) four walks to tie Ty Cobb (1,249) for 50th place all-time. Paul Konerko: One home run to tie Juan Gonzalez and Andruw Jones for 42nd place all-time with homers and nine total bases to tie Frank Thomas for the franchise records (448 HR; 3,949 TB). Addison Reed: Seven saves to tie Terry Forster for sixth place in White Sox history with 75 three saves to tie Keith Foulke (42 in 2001) for the second most in a season in team history. ON DECK: VS.
