RHP Hector Noesi, who has lowered his ERA from to 5.33 since joining the Sox, takes the mound for the fi nale. Following today s game, the Sox will take a seven-game trip to Boston (7/7-10) and Cleveland (7/11-13) to end the fi rst half. Chicago went 4-7 on their last trip to Minnesota (0-4), Baltimore (1-2) and Toronto (3-1) from 6/ TODAY S STORYLINES The White Sox have won 15 of the last 20 games vs. Seattle and are 28-8 since 2010 (10 series wins). Chicago is vs. teams above.500 this season and against teams with losing records. White Sox starters own a 1.11 ERA (3 ER/24.1 IP), 32 strikeouts and a.193 opponents average in the last three games. The Sox are 4-7 over their last 11 home games after winning six of their previous eight at U.S. Cellular Field. YESTERDAY S RECAP Brad Miller recorded a game-winning single off Ronald Belisario in the 14th inning to lead Seattle to a 3-2, comeback win. The White Sox took a 2-0 lead in the eighth on Dayan Viciedo s RBI double and Tyler Flowers sac fl y off Felix Hernandez the Mariners answered with two runs in the top of the ninth. Jose Quintana received a no decision despite allowing just four hits with one walk and a season-high matching 10 strikeouts over 7.2 scoreless IP he retired the fi rst 11 batters he faced. Belisario (1 ER/3.0 IP) matched a career-high in IP Zach Putnam (1 ER/1.0 IP) was charged with his fi rst blown save. Chicago was limited to four hits and two walks and was 1-8 with RISP Jose Abreu s 18-game hitting streak was snapped. The 4:38 game time was the Sox second-longest in WHERE S THE HELP? LHP Jose Quintana has worked at least 7.0 scoreless IP eight times in his career, recording one win with seven NDs. He is one of 13 AL pitchers since 2012 to have eight or more such performances, and the only one with less than six wins. Quintana leads the major leagues with 33 no decisions since 2012 (73 career starts during that span) has received one run of support or less 27 times in his career. ABREU CLIMBS THE CHARTS Jose Abreu (0-4) had his season-high, 18-game hitting streak snapped yesterday it is the third-longest in MLB this year. The streak is tied with Rip Radcliffe (1935) and Pete Ward (1963) for the sixth-longest by a White Sox rookie. Abreu (74 games) needs three home runs in his next four games to become the fastest player in major-league history to hit 30 career homers Rudy York reached the 30-homer mark in his fi rst 79 career games. ALL-STAR BUZZ The 2014 American and National League All-Star Teams will be announced tonight at 6:00 p.m. CT on ESPN s Taco Bell All- Star Selection Show Jose Abreu, Alexei Ramirez and Chris Sale are strong candidates to be selected to the AL team. Abreu is attempting to become the fi rst White Sox rookie to make an AL All-Star team since Ron Kittle in The last White Sox shortstop to be selected to an AL squad was Ozzie Guillen in Sale is vying to become the first Chicago pitcher to make three straight All-Star appearanced since Jack McDowell ( ). ROOKIE SENSATION Jose Abreu has won American League Player of the Month honors for April and Rookie of the Month in April and June, becoming the fi rst player in team history to win multiple rookie awards in a single season. Among Abreu s other accomplishments in 2014: 27 HR are the most in major-league history by a player in his fi rst 74 career games, and 69 RBI are tied with Jim Bottomley ( ) for the sixth-highest total. On pace to record 50 home runs and 127 RBI the 50 homers would break the Sox record set by Albert Belle in 1998 (49) and the major-league rookie record set by Mark McGwire in 1987 (49). His 27 homers are the third-most before the All-Star break in club history behind Frank Thomas (32, 1994) and Jim Thome (30, 2006). 27 HR are tied for second-highest total in Sox history by a rookie. Is tied for the MLB lead with 10 games of three-plus RBI. COUNTDOWN TO COOPERSTOWN Frank Thomas will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y. joining Thomas in the Class of 2014 are pitchers Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux and managers Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa and Joe Torre. The Big Hurt, the White Sox all-time leader in most offensive categories, is one of four players in major-league history with a career.300 average, 500 home runs, 1,500 RBI and 1,000 runs scored and 1,500 walks, joining Mel Ott, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. WHITE SOX VS. SEATTLE MARINERS The 2014 series is even, 1-1 Chicago is hitting.165 (13-79) with a 1.57 ERA (4 ER/23.0 IP) and a 9-4 edge in runs scored.
