LHP Chris Sale, who is 5-1 with a 2.15 ERA (12 ER/50.1 IP) at home this season, takes the mound for the White Sox. Following this series, the Sox will take a seven-game trip to Boston (7/7-10) and Cleveland (7/11-13) to end the fi rst half. Chicago went 4-7 on their last trip to Minnesota (0-4), Baltimore (1-2) and Toronto (3-1) from 6/ TONIGHT S STORYLINES The White Sox have won 14 of the last 18 games vs. Seattle and are 27-7 since Chicago is 4-11 vs. the American League West this season. Chris Sale is 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA (8 ER/24.2 IP) and 28 strikeouts lifetime vs. Seattle (three quality starts). Jose Abreu owns a 17-game hitting streak (.343, 23-67), the longest active streak in the major leagues the last Sox rookie to hit in 18 straight was Pete Ward in Adam Eaton has reached base safely in 25 of his last 26 games, hitting.310 (31-100) with 10 XBH and 15 walks. WEDNESDAY S RECAP Leury Garcia recorded a game-ending, pinch single in the ninth inning as the White Sox recorded a 3-2 win over the Angels. The Sox took an 2-0 lead on a two-run single by Alexei Ramirez in the fourth the Angels tied the game on a pair of solo homers by David Freese (seventh inning) and Josh Hamilton (eighth). John Danks received a no decision despite allowing two runs with a career-high matching 10 strikeouts over 7.2 IP Zach Putnam worked 1.1 scoreless IP and earned his third win. Jose Abreu went 1-3, extending his hitting streak to a careerhigh 17 games Gordon Beckham was 2-3 with a double. FOURTH OF JULY FUN The White Sox have won four straight games on the Fourth of July after losing their previous three. The Sox defeated Baltimore, 3-2, last season on Adam Dunn s game-ending home run in the ninth inning. Chicago and Seattle last met on Independence Day in 1991 at the Kingdome the Mariners won, 3-2. SALE S K ZONE Chris Sale s 13 career double-digit strikeout games are tied with Javier Vazquez for the second-most in White Sox history Juan Pizarro owns the club record with 15. Sale owns three 10-plus strikeout performances this season and 13 since 2012, tied for the fourth-most in the majors. SALE-ING THROUGH LEFTIES Chris Sale is limiting left-handers to an.089 average (4-45) in 2014 lefties have zero extra-base hits and fi ve walks. He is limiting lefties to a.179 mark (69-386) since 2012, the third-lowest mark among American League pitchers. Left-handers are hitting.192 ( ) with three home runs lifetime vs. Sale Brennan Boesch (twice) and Travis Hafner are the only two lefties to homer off Sale in his career. ROOKIE SENSATION Rookie Jose Abreu has been named American League Rookie of the Month for June (also won April Player and Rookie honors) among Abreu s other accomplishments in 2014: 26 HR are the most in major-league history by a player in his fi rst 72 career games, and 67 RBI are tied with Wally Berger (1930) and Joe DiMaggio (1936) for the seventh-highest total. On pace to record 49 home runs and 126 RBI the 49 homers would match the Sox club record set by Albert Belle in 1998 and the major-league rookie record set by Mark McGwire in His 26 homers are tied with Dick Allen (1974) and Frank Thomas (2000) for the third-most before the All-Star break in club history. Joins Bob Horner (1978) as the only players in MLB history with four multihomer efforts in fi rst 71 career games. 26 HR are the third-highest total in White Sox history by a rookie. 10 games with three-plus RBI, the most in the major leagues. ABREU HONORED AGAIN Jose Abreu has been named American League Rookie of the Month for June, his second rookie honor (April) he is the fi rst player in club history to win the monthly award twice in a year. Abreu joins Jim Thome (2006) and Frank Thomas (1993) as the only players in White Sox history to hit 10-plus homers in a month twice in one season. Following his April honor, Abreu joined Yasiel Puig (6/13) as the only players to win both awards in their fi rst month in MLB. COUNTDOWN TO COOPERSTOWN Frank Thomas will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y. joining Thomas in the Class of 2014 are pitchers Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux and managers Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa and Joe Torre. The Big Hurt, the White Sox all-time leader in most offensive categories, is one of four players in major-league history with a career.300 average, 500 home runs, 1,500 RBI and 1,000 runs scored and 1,500 walks, joining Mel Ott, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. WHITE SOX VS. SEATTLE Chicago and Seattle play seven times this season, including three games at U.S. Cellular Field and four at Safeco Field. The White Sox are 27-7 against the Mariners since 2010 (16-3 at home) and since The Sox are in the last 10 season matchups the teams split the 2013 matchup, 3-3 (both teams went 2-1 at home). SALADINO AN INTERNATIONAL STAR Class AAA Charlotte INF Tyler Saladino has been named to the International League All-Star Team (as a shortstop) for the Triple-A All-Star Game on 7/16 in Durham, N.C.
