RHP Andre Rienzo, who has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his last six starts, takes the mound for the Sox. Chicago is in second place in the American League Central, 5.5 games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers. Following this series, the White Sox will take a six-game, seven-day trip to Los Angeles (6/2-4) and Anaheim (6/6-8). TODAY S STORYLINES Six of the White Sox last seven wins and eight of their last 13 games overall have been decided by one run. White Sox starters own a 2.19 ERA (15 ER/61.2 IP) and.200 opponents average (45-225) over the last 10 games. The Sox are hitting.226 (36-159) with two home runs and 13 runs scored over the last fi ve games (2.6 runs per game). Chicago is all-time vs. the National League West. Conor Gillaspie has hit safely in 21 of his last 23 games, batting.379 (33-87) with eight doubles and eight RBI (eight multihit). Alexei Ramirez is hitting.362 (17-47) with two homers and nine RBI in his last 13 games (six multihit efforts). LAST NIGHT S RECAP The White Sox were limited to just four hits, including one extra-base hit, as they lost the opener to San Diego, 4-1. The Sox tallied eight baserunners (four walks) for the game and were held hitless with one baserunner over the last fi ve innings they struck out 13 times and went 0-4 with RISP. John Danks suffered his fifth loss despite allowing just two runs over 7.0 IP he has allowed a total of two earned runs over his last two outings (15.0 IP). Conor Gillaspie (2-4) recorded Chicago s only extra-base hit, run scored and multihit effort. GILLASPIE THE GREAT Conor Gillaspie has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games (since 5/12) and 32 of 35 overall this season he is hitting.421 (24-57) with six doubles, a triple and fi ve RBI since 5/12. Gillaspie s.421 mark since 5/12 leads the majors Seattle s Robinson Cano ranks second with a.407 mark (24-59). His.356 overall average (47-132) would lead the AL and rank second in baseball with the necessary plate appearances. Gillaspie is hitting.429 (18-42) in the seventh inning or later,.406 (28-69) in May and.397 (23-58) with runners on base. RAMIREZ ROLLS ON Alexei Ramirez ranks among the American League leaders in multihit games (T2nd, 22), singles (T2nd, 53), hits (3rd, 70), average (4th,.326) and average with RISP (6th,.373). Ramirez has hit safely in 45 of Chicago s 56 games and has gone hitless in consecutive contests just twice Houston s Jose Altuve is the only other players in baseball this season to hit safely in at least 45 of his team s fi rst 56 games. Has played in an AL leading innings (missed 4.0 IP). STRONG STARTING POINT White Sox starters own a 2.19 ERA (15 ER/61.2 IP) with 54 strikeouts and a.200 opponents average (45-225) over the last 10 games eight of the starts have been quality. The 2.19 ERA is the second-lowest in MLB during that span San Francisco ranks fi rst with a 2.18 mark (15 ER/62.0 IP). Starters have allowed three earned runs or less in each of the 10 outings, and walked two or less nine times. Sox starters owned a 6.90 ERA in the previous 11 contests. LONG BALL LOGISTICS The White Sox rank fifth in the American League with 56 home runs this season but have hit just two over the last six games their last multihomer effort came on 5/23 vs. the Yankees (2). The Sox are 22-9 when hitting at least one homer and 13-3 when recording a multihomer game (6-19 when homerless). SETTING SALE ON SUNDAY LHP Chris Sale is scheduled to start tomorrow s series fi nale vs. San Diego he worked just 3.0 IP in his last start on 5/27 vs. Cleveland (left the game following a 1:58 rain delay). Sale is 4-0 with a 1.73 ERA (7 ER/36.1 IP), 43 strikeouts and a.138 opponents average (17-123) over six starts this season. Tickets are available for all three weekend games, including $15 seats in the K Zone for Sale on Sunday (sec ). COUNTDOWN TO COOPERSTOWN Frank Thomas will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y. joining Thomas in the Class of 2014 are pitchers Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux and managers Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa and Joe Torre. The Big Hurt, the White Sox all-time leader in most offensive categories, is one of four players in major-league history with a career.300 average, 500 home runs, 1,500 RBI and 1,000 runs scored and 1,500 walks, joining Mel Ott, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. WHITE SOX VS. SAN DIEGO Chicago and San Diego are meeting for just the third time during interleague play and fi rst since 2005 at Petco Park. The Sox seven games vs. the Padres are their second-fewest vs. a National League opponent (San Francisco, 6). The White Sox took two of three games in the last meeting from 6/10-12/05 at San Diego. Chicago is hitting.237 (54-228) with 10 homers, a 2.98 ERA (21 ER/63.1 IP) and has outscored the Padres, 25-22, all-time. The White Sox lead the all-time series, 4-3 they have gone 2-2 at U.S. Cellular Field and 2-1 at Petco Park. INTERLEAGUE INFORMATION The White Sox are (.561) all-time during interleague play, the fourth-best record in the major leagues Chicago has gone since 2012, including a mark at home. The White Sox are tied for fi fth in the American League with 30 quality starts this season Jose Quintana is tied for fourth in the AL with nine QS in Chris Sale (3rd, 46) and Quintana (8th) rank among the AL left-handed leaders in quality starts since WEATHERING THE STORM There have been 221 combined games missed by eight White Sox players (fi ve current) who made the Opening Day roster. INF Gordon Beckham (22 games) started 2014 on the DL. MISSING IN ACTION Jose Abreu was placed on the disabled list on 5/18 with infl ammation in his left ankle no timetable is set for his return.
