Tonight s game is scheduled for a 6:40 p.m. CT first pitch. LHP John Danks, who owns a 2.00 ERA (4 ER/18.0 IP) over his last three outings, makes his fi nal start of the season. The Sox are trying to finish above.500 at home for the seventh time in the last 10 years (20th time at U.S. Cellular Field). TONIGHT S STORYLINES The White Sox are celebrating Paul Konerko Day at U.S. Cellular Field to honor and celebrate the team s retiring captain. Chicago needs to win one of their remaining games to avoid consecutive 90-loss seasons for the fi rst time since The White Sox are 1-7 vs. the Royals at U.S. Cellular Field this season and have lost 10 of the last 12 overall. John Danks is 6-0 with a 2.42 ERA (26 ER/96.2 IP) over 15 career starts vs. Kansas City (12 quality starts). Jose Abreu ranks among the White Sox all-time rookie, singleseason leaders in home runs (T1st, 35) and RBI (3rd,105). HONORING THE CAPTAIN The White Sox will honor retiring captain Paul Konerko with a special ceremony prior to tonight s game vs. Kansas City. The pregame tribute will include a memorable presentation with special guests, celebratory team-issued gifts and videos. Former teammates expected to attend include Brian Anderson, Joe Crede, Chris Getz, Ross Gload, Mark Kotsay, Sean Lowe, Scott Podsednik, Cliff Politte, Jim Thome and Craig Wilson. LAST NIGHT S RECAP Jeremy Guthrie and two relievers combined on a six-hitter to lead Kansas City to a 3-1 win, clinching a postseason berth. The White Sox were limited to just fi ve singles, one triple and one walk, struck out 10 times and went 1-2 with RISP. Hector Noesi fell to 8-12 in his final start of 2014, allowing three runs on six hits over 6.0 IP he allowed all three runs in the fi rst inning before working 5.0 scoreless IP to fi nish the start. Alexei Ramirez drove in Chicago s only run with a RBI single in the eighth Adam Eaton recorded his 10th triple, becoming the fi rst Sox to reach the mark since Ray Durham in GET THE STATUE READY Paul Konerko is the White Sox franchise leader in total bases (4,010), ranks second in homer (432), RBI (1,383), games (2,266) and XBH (846) and third in hits (2,292) and doubles (406). Konerko is the White Sox single-season leader in 20-homer (12), 30-homer (7) and 100-RBI (6) seasons Konerko s 10 grand slams are tied with Robin Ventura for the club record. He ranks fi fth among active players with 1,412 RBI and 2,346 games and sixth with 439 homers and 4,083 total bases. MR. PERFECT LHP John Danks has opened his career with 15 consecutive unbeaten starts vs. Kansas City, the longest active streak by any pitcher vs. a single opponent (source: STATS LLC). Only three other active pitchers started their careers with unbeaten streaks of 15 games or more against an opponent: Boston LHP Jon Lester: 20 starts vs. Baltimore ( ); Miami RHP Anibal Sanchez: 19 starts vs. Washington ( ); Miami RHP Josh Johnson: 15 starts vs. Washington ( ). Danks is the fi rst White Sox pitcher since at least 1914 to go undefeated in his fi rst 15-plus starts vs. a single opponent. STRONG AT THE START White Sox starters own a 3.02 ERA (44 ER/131.0 IP) in the last 21 games (since 9/5) 16 of the starts have been quality. Starters have allowed two earned runs or less 12 times. PAUL KONERKO S FAREWELL SEASON Paul Konerko is playing in his 18th and fi nal season, including 16 with the White Sox agreed to a one-year contract on 12/4/13. His 16-season tenure with the White Sox is the second-longest with a current team behind the Yankees Derek Jeter (20 seasons). Ranks among the franchise leaders in virtually every offensive category is the club leader in total bases and ranks second in home runs (Frank Thomas), RBI (Thomas) and games played (Luke Appling). The White Sox captain was part of the 2005 World Series championship team, was named the ALCS MVP and is a six-time All-Star. WHITE SOX VS. KANSAS CITY The White Sox are 5-12 vs. Kansas City this season, going 1-7 at U.S. Cellular Field and 4-5 at Kauffman Stadium.
