LHP Jose Quintana takes the mound for the White Sox, who have split the fi rst two games of this series against the Twins. Following today s game, the Sox conclude the homestand with three games vs. Texas (8/4-6) before taking a six-game, seven-day trip to Seattle (8/7-10) and San Francisco (8/12-13). LAST NIGHT S RECAP Minnesota scored three runs off Ronald Belisario in the eighth inning and added a run in the ninth to post an 8-6 victory. Trailing, 4-2, the White Sox four runs on five hits in the seventh before suffering their 28th loss of the season after leading. Jose Abreu went 0-3 with two walks to end his 21-game hitting streak, tied for the 10th-longest in franchise history. Adam Eaton matched his career high four hits, going 4-5 with three doubles and two RBI, and narrowly missed tying the White Sox record of four doubles in one game. Alexei Ramirez went 2-5 with a homer and two RBI, while Gordon Beckham and Alejandro De Aza added two hits apiece. Abreu is the fi rst major-league player with two hitting streaks of 18-plus games in the same season since Jacoby Ellsbury in 2011 (19 and 18), the fi rst rookie since Ichiro Suzuki in 2001 (23 and 21) and the second player in White Sox history (Eddie Collins, 21 and 22 in 1920). He has hit safely in 39 of his last 41 games (.370, ) to raise his average from.260 to.308. ROOKIE PHENOM Jose Abreu leads the major leagues in home runs (31), RBI (84), slugging percentage (.634) and total bases (239) and is tied for the lead in extra-base hits (60). Among Abreu s notable accomplishments in 2014: On pace to record 45 HR and 123 RBI the 45 HR would fall four shy of Albert Belle s club and Mark McGwire s rookie records. 31 HR rank third in MLB history by a player in his fi rst 96 games behind Rudy York (32 in 1930) and Mark McGwire (34 in ) his 84 RBI rank sixth. Has compiled hitting streaks of 18 and 21 games. Attempting to become the sixth player in Sox history to win AL Rookie of the Year honors and fi rst since Ozzie Guillen in Attempting to become the third player (fourth time) in Sox history to lead the AL home runs (Bill Melton, 1971 and Dick Allen, 1972, 74) and the second to lead in RBI (Allen, 1972). PAUL KONERKO S FAREWELL SEASON Paul Konerko is playing in his 18th and fi nal season, including 16 with the White Sox agreed to a one-year contract on 12/4/13. His 16-season tenure with the White Sox is the second-longest with a current team behind the Yankees Derek Jeter (20 seasons). Ranks among the franchise leaders in virtually every offensive category is the club leader in total bases and ranks second in home runs (Frank Thomas), RBI (Thomas) and games played (Luke Appling). The White Sox captain was part of the 2005 World Series championship team, was named the ALCS MVP and is a six-time All-Star. Was a teammate of Hall-of-Famer Frank Thomas and replaced him as the Sox starting fi rst baseman. WHITE SOX VS. MINNESOTA The Twins lead the season series, 7-6 the White Sox have won four of the last six games after losing fi ve in a row. The Sox are hitting.310 ( ) with a 4.70 ERA (60 ER/114.2 IP) and have outscored the Twins, The teams have combined for 72 runs in the fi ve games at U.S. Cellular Field this season. FROM THE TRAINING ROOM OF Avisail Garcia (left shoulder) and RHP Matt Lindstrom (left ankle) began their injury rehab assignments with Class AAA Charlotte on Friday Garcia, who has been on the disabled list since 4/10 went 3-5 last night and is 5-8 (.625) in two games with the Knights, both as the designated hitter. Lindstrom, who has been disabled since 5/20, allowed one run over 1.0 IP in the completion of Friday s suspended game. SOUTHSIDE S BIG THREE LHP John Danks, Jose Quintana and Chris Sale have combined to go with a 3.25 ERA (139 ER/384.2 IP) and 343 strikeouts in 61 combined starts (44 quality) in Quintana is 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA (11 ER/53.2 IP) in his last eight starts, and Sale is 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA (7 ER/37.2 IP) in his last fi ve.
