The Sox are 2-3 on the trip, winning the fi rst two games of this series by 3-1 scores after suffering a three-game sweep at Cleveland over the weekend. Following this four-game series, they return to Chicago for six games vs. Toronto (6/24-26) and Minnesota (6/28-30). The White Sox went 4-5 on their last homestand vs. Washington (1-2), Kansas City (1-2) and Detroit (2-1) from 6/7-15 and 2-7 on their last trip to Kansas City (0-3), the Mets (2-1) and Detroit (0-3) from 5/26-6/5. TONIGHT'S STORYLINES Jose Quintana is 3-0 with a 1.94 ERA (9 ER/41.2 IP) over six career starts against Boston and 1-0 with a 2.11 ERA (5 ER/21.1 IP) in three starts at Fenway Park. The White Sox have held Boston to one run or less in back-toback games for the first time this season and first time at Fenway Park since 5/20-21/15 vs. Texas. The Sox have won fi ve of their last six games at Fenway Park and 15 of their last 24. Jose Abreu has reached base safely in 18 consecutive games, hitting.343 (24-70) with seven doubles, four home runs, 17 RBI and nine multihit efforts to raise his average from.242 to.267. WHITE SOX CLAIM JUAN MINAYA Chicago has claimed right-handed pitcher Juan Minaya off waivers from Houston and assigned him to Class AAA Charlotte. Minaya, 25, went 1-3 with a 3.91 ERA (11 ER/25.1 IP) and 19 strikeouts over 17 relief appearances with Class AAA Fresno this season before being designated for assignment on 6/20. The Sox 40-man roster increases to 40. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Chris Sale combined with Nate Jones and David Robertson on a six-hitter, and Tim Anderson and Todd Frazier hit solo home runs to lead Chicago to its second straight 3-1 win over Boston. Sale earned his major-league leading 12th victory, allowing one run on four hits over 7.0 IP he walked one and matched his season high with nine strikeouts. Anderson went 2-4 with his first major-league homer, a leadoff shot off Clay Buchholz, and Frazier added his 20th of the season off Buchholz in the fourth. Jones posted his 16th hold, and Robertson recorded the fi nal four outs for his 18th save and ninth career of more than 1.0 IP. BENETTI GOES NATIONAL Jason Benetti, who is in his fi rst season as a member of the White Sox television broadcast team, will call his fi rst national TV game tonight when Chicago plays at Boston on ESPN. Benetti has worked college football and basketball games, along with high school football and Little League baseball since joining ESPN in HELP WANTED Jose Quintana is the fi rst White Sox pitcher to receive zero or one run of support over seven consecutive starts since Ross Baumgarten from 6/21-8/24/80 (STATS) Juan Pizarro (nine from 7/25-9/25/62) is the last Sox pitcher with eight or more such starts in a row. Quintana has gone 0-6 with a 3.86 ERA (20 ER/46.2 IP) over his last seven starts, receiving a total of five runs of support (0.96 RSA), after going 5-1 with a 1.38 ERA (7 ER/45.1 IP) over his fi rst seven (4.73 RSA). LEADOFF MAN Tim Anderson last night became the fi rst White Sox player since Thad Bosley on 5/29/78 vs. Oakland whose fi rst majorleague home run was a leadoff shot (STATS) Oakland's Billy Burns (5/24/15 at Tampa Bay) was the last player in the majors to accomplish the feat. Anderson has 14 hits over his fi rst 11 games in the majors, tied with fi ve others for the sixth-highest total in Sox history Craig Wilson holds the franchise record with 21 hits in FIRST AND 12 Chris Sale last night became the fi rst 12-game winner in the major leagues, the fi rst White Sox pitcher to accomplish that feat since Jon Garland in Sale's 12 wins are tied for the ninth-highest total in Sox history before the break and are the most since Garland (13) in He is on pace to make 34 starts and fi nish with 27 wins. WHITE SOX VS. BOSTON The White Sox lead the season series, 3-2, after winning the fi rst two games of this series by a 6-2 margin. Chicago is hitting.190/.302/.314 with a 2.93 ERA (15 ER/46.0 IP) both teams have scored 15 runs. The White Sox have won five of their last six games at Fenway Park and 15 of 24. Chicago trails in the all-time series, , going at home (53-57 at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road ( ) at Fenway Park. LOOKING FOR AN EDGE VS. THE EAST The White Sox are 10-8 vs. the American League East in 2016 (9-6 on the road), including a combined 5-0 record at Toronto (3-0) and Boston (2-0) in which they have held the Blue Jays and Red Sox to nine runs total. Sox pitchers have posted a 3.27 ERA (57 ER/157.0 IP) vs. the AL East this season, including a 2.05 mark (10 ER/44.0 IP) over the last fi ve. OUT GOES FRAZIER Todd Frazier is tied for second in the major leagues with 20 home runs, one behind Colorado's Nolan Arenado Frazier has joined Bill Melton (20 in 1971) as the only third basemen in Sox history to reach 20 homers before the break. Melton (1971) and Dick Allen (1972 and '74) are the only players in White Sox history to lead the American League in homers no Sox player has ever led the majors. LET'S GET DEFENSIVE The White Sox lead the American League and rank second in the majors with a.989 fi elding percentage, up from.983 last season when they ranked 13th in the AL. The Sox have been errorless in 37 of their last 46 games since 5/1, including a franchise-record, 12-game streak from 5/1-14 (433 total chances) and a 10-game streak from 5/ Chicago has turned two triple plays this season (4/22 vs. Texas and 5/17 vs. Houston), the first team to accomplish the feat since Philadelphia in CLOSE CALLS Thirty-eight of the White Sox 71 games this season have been decided by one or two runs the Sox are in onerun games and 9-5 in two-run contests. With Chicago leading, 4-3, in the sixth inning of Game 3 of the 2005 ALDS at Fenway Park, Hernandez retired Jason Varitek and Tony Graffanino on popups and struck out Johnny Damon on a 3-2 count to end the threat. Hernandez threw 3.0 scoreless IP in that game, and the White Sox went on to post a 5-3 victory and complete the three-game sweep of the defending World Champion Red Sox.
