Quintana will be followed by LHP John Danks in tomorrow afternoon s series fi nale at Kauffman Stadium. Following this three-game series, the White Sox return to Chicago for a three-game homestand vs. Minnesota (4/10-12) before taking a five-game, six-day trip to Cleveland (4/14-15) and Detroit (4/17-19). The Sox went in spring training, concluding on Friday with a 10-2 loss at Class AAA Charlotte. The Sox play the Cubs (twice), Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh (twice) and St. Louis (twice) during interleague play. TONIGHT S STORYLINES Chicago is looking to avoid its fi rst 0-2 start since The White Sox have lost 12 of their last 15 games to Kansas City and have been outscored, LHP Jose Quintana is 0-6 with a 4.38 ERA (38 ER/78.0 IP) in 12 career starts against the Royals. Jose Abreu owns a 17-game hitting streak dating back to spring training and has homered in back-to-back regular season games (9/27/14 vs. Kansas City). Alexei Ramirez has 99 career home runs. OPENING DAY RECAP Kansas City collected 13 hits in a 10-1 victory on Monday the White Sox suffered their most lopsided Opening Day defeat since a 12-3 loss at Milwaukee in RHP Jeff Samardzija suffered the loss in his White Sox debut, allowing fi ve runs on six hits over 6.0 IP. Jose Abreu hit a solo home run off Yordana Ventura in the seventh inning to account for the White Sox lone run. Samardzija, Melky Cabrera (1-4), Adam LaRoche (0-4), Micah Johnson (1-3), Dan Jennings (3 ER/0.2 IP) and Kyle Drabek (2 ER/1.1 IP) all made their Sox debuts. The Sox, who lost for the just the second time in their last seven season openers, featured four newcomers in the starting lineup for the fi rst time since ROSTER QUICK FACTS The White Sox 25-man roster includes 11 pitchers (four lefthanders), two catchers, eight infi elders and four outfi elders according to STATS LLC, the average age of the Sox 25-man roster is 28.87, the 10th-youngest in baseball the mark for the 40-man roster is tied for the fourth-youngest in MLB. 1B Adam LaRoche (35) is the oldest player, INF Carlos Sanchez (22) is the youngest, and LHP John Danks (2007-) is the longest tenured, followed by SS Alexei Ramirez (2008-). RHP Nate Jones (Tommy John surgery), RHP Jake Petricka (forearm strain), LHP Chris Sale (right foot fracture) and LHP Eric Surkamp (upper back strain) are on the disabled list. INFs Micah Johnson and Sanchez are the only rookies (six in 2014), while RHP Matt Albers, Johnson and C Geovany Soto made the club as non-roster invitees to spring training. A BUSY OFFSEASON The White Sox Opening Day roster includes 12 players who were acquired in the offseason. LHP Zach Duke (11/18), 1B Adam LaRoche (11/25), RHP David Robertson (12/10), OF Melky Cabrera (12/16), INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio (1/8), C Geovany Soto (1/22), INF Gordon Beckham (1/28) and RHP Matt Albers (1/20) were signed as free agents. RHP Jeff Samardzija (12/9 from Oakland) and LHP Dan Jennings (12/11 from Miami) were acquired via trade. OF J.B. Shuck (11/3 from Cleveland) and RHP Kyle Drabek (3/27 from Toronto) were claimed off waivers. CENTRAL-LY LOCATED Chicago plays its fi rst 18 games and 25 of the fi rst 28 vs. American League Central teams the club is 0-1 thus far. The White Sox went vs. the AL Central in 2014, including a 6-13 record against Kansas City. Chicago has fi nished under.500 vs. the AL Central in fi ve of the last six years, with the exception of a mark in AT THE HELM Robin Ventura is in his fourth season as White Sox manager Ventura owns a (.454) record, including in 2014 he was a fi nalist for American League Manager of the Year in 2012 Ventura agreed to terms on a multiyear contract extension on 1/24/14. WHITE SOX VS. KANSAS CITY Kansas City has won four straight season matchups against the White Sox for the fi rst time ever, going in that span. The White Sox were 6-13 against the Royals in 2014, going 4-5 at Kauffman Stadium and 2-7 at U.S. Cellular Field they batted.253 ( ) with a 4.59 ERA (85 ER/166.2 IP) and were outscored, The Sox lead the all-time series, they are at home ( at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road ( at Kauffman Stadium). SALE-ING TOWARD A QUICK RETURN LHP Chris Sale, the White Sox Opening Day starter the last two seasons, is on the 15-day disabled list (retro to 3/27) with an avulsion fracture of his right foot suffered on 2/27. Sale fi nished third in the American League Cy Young Award voting in 2014 after going 12-4 with a 2.17 ERA (42 ER/174.0 IP) and 208 strikeouts over 26 starts. He is expected to join the team in Kansas City after throwing 5.0 IP (72 pitches) in a minor-league game on Monday. THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT 1B Jose Abreu, OF Adam Eaton, LHP Jose Quintana and LHP Chris Sale all are under contract with the White Sox potentially through Sale is signed through 2017 with club options for 2018 and 2019, Abreu through 2019, Quintana through 2018 with club options for 2019 and 2020 and Eaton through 2019 with club options for 2020 and ENCORE PERFORMANCE Jose Abreu was a unanimous choice as the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year, fi nished fourth in the Most Valuable Player voting and won the Silver Slugger Award. Abreu led the AL in slugging percentage (.581) and ranked among the leaders in OPS (2nd,.964), total bases (2nd, 323), home runs (T4th, 36), RBI (5th, 107) and average (6th,.317). He topped the major leagues with a.508 (30-59) average in spring training and hit safely in his fi nal 16 CL games. HONORING MR. WHITE SOX The White Sox will wear No. 9 patches on their uniforms throughout the season to honor franchise legend Minnie Minoso, who passed away on 3/1/15 at the age of 90. Minoso batted.298 with 186 home runs, 1,023 RBI, 1,136 runs scored and 205 stolen bases over his 17-year career which spanned fi ve decades. CELEBRATING A CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON The White Sox will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2005 World Series championship team throughout the 2015 season, highlighted by a reunion on 7/ The Sox went in 2005 and 11-1 during the postseason to capture their fi rst world championship since MOVING ON WITHOUT THE CAPTAIN For the fi rst time since 1998, Paul Konerko was not on the White Sox Opening Day roster Konerko batted.279 with 439 home runs and 1,412 RBI over 18 major-league seasons, the last 16 with Chicago. His uniform No. 14 will be retired on 5/23 as part of Paul Konerko Day vs. Minnesota. QUALITY IS JOB ONE The White Sox have made 1,059 quality starts since the start of the 2003 season, the second-highest total in the major leagues behind the Mets (1,062).
